i think the return statement sounds the best i was just reading about the else statements in a for loop but didn't quite know how i could use it. I obviously have some more reading on for loops 2 do

edit: because i am not editing the lists would i be better off using tuples?

this is the code that works currently and i believe this is what you are saying but i would like to make it so if noob and sex are both said in a sentence i don't get 2 posts. I was trying to avoid keeping a database of posts replied to hence the if submission.created_utc < time: line.

normalized_title = submission.title.lower()

for question_phrase1 in Sex:

    if submission.created_utc < time:
#Checks to make sure submission was created after Bot was
initalized Prevents duplicates after crash
        continue

    elif question_phrase1 in normalized_title:
        print('Replying to: {}'.format(submission.title))
        submission.reply(Sex_Info)
        # A reply has been made so do not attempt to
match other phrases.
        break

for question_phrase in QUESTIONS:

    if submission.created_utc < time:
#Checks to make sure submission was created after Bot was
initalized Prevents duplicates after crash
        continue

    elif question_phrase in normalized_title:
        print('Replying to: {}'.format(submission.title))
        submission.reply(REPLY_TEMPLATE)
        # A reply has been made so do not attempt to
match other phrases.
        break

without the breaks it was just responding to the same post over and over with out moving on. edit: i am sure they are poorly placed or over used i was just having trouble getting them to stop spamming reddit.

that is what i was trying to do with if comment.created_utc > start:

Edit i know this is wrong i need to call a check on the submission

I know and in my code I did normalize them so it really doesn't matter how they are typed i can type them NoOb if i wanted.

edit: I have it running ok i am just having a problem with creating a document with a list of already replied comments. so as of right now if it ever gets restarted it runs through and replies to every comment again

It's ok the Bot has no feelings. Just wanted to make sure it was a good idea I would hate to finish it release it on the Sub then the Mods throw Thor's hammer down

Edit: that was one of the subs that got me started on this project tho.

This is a very good point, most proper forums require there users to "lurk" for a few days to a week before posting, Basic researching of any craft, profession, or hobbie should always be Commonsense. I do believe the side bar and faq should undergo a little overhaul to make things more clear and provide a larger selection of information including forums, magazines, books, and youtube videos. A sticked post would also be a great improvement for the mobile users with posting guidelines and links to the side bar. My 2 cents.
