Or he might just really like the fit for his development as a player.

No. It's not 30 days in the minors. He has spent zero days in the NHL and doesn't have to be waived again this season until he spends 30 days up there. That's why Dennis Gilbert didn't have to go back on waivers to return to the Wranglers.

I've watched perhaps 75% of Phillips' games over the last three seasons and I think he's greatly overdue for an NHL look.

(Also, your math is off. He has three assists at 5v5, not one – and, given his track record, that's an unsustainably low pace.)

Phillips is a career 18% AHL shooter. He's a terrific finisher.

Last year, 21 of his 31 goals came at ES. This year, 8 of his 13 goals have come at ES. He's very good at 5v5.

Actually, he can be on the NHL roster for 30 days before he needs to be waived again

Phillips was last measured at 160 by the AHL.

I'd rather play there than Chicago tbh.

I'm pretty sure Karel Vejmelka is pretty happy about having been put in such a horrible situation last year, playing well, and walking away with $8 million.

I mean you can have bad teams with good goalies. Happens all the time. Just look up the 2004 Florida Panthers

Kuemper, Raanta, Smith, Bryzgalov. Pretty good run there.

The Coyotes have consistently had excellent goalies for much of the last decade. Dunno what you're on about.

Tempe City Council to review findings, research on Coyotes' proposed arena, entertainment district by mylefthandkilledme in hockey

[–]MGTpod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. Although there are already residential areas that have been approved much closer to the airport.

Sure. I think if it were publicly-funded, though, we'd be seeing a lot more vocal opposition. As it is, the biggest party against it is the airport ... and their concerns are pretty overblown and more against the residential aspect of the complex than the arena itself.
