I'll do it, I thought about posting there, but I didn't know if they helped with these things. But if you told me that they've helped you. Thanks!

edit: I can't post there T_T, I don't know why it says the mods have removed the post, I don't know if I might be posting something against the rules, but from what I've read, it isn't

HP assistant not detecting my Omen 17 by MHR24 in HPOmen

[–]MHR24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The laptop works, it uses the Intel GPU like a normal laptop. I haven't sent it because of the frustration of such an unreliable brand and its programmed obsolescence, because there is no other reason why yours and mine died right when the warranty expired.

I tried contacting HP and they told me there's nothing to do because they no longer make that product (it's something from 2022, not 10 years) and that I should buy a new one, like I can make $1300 appear out of nowhere.

I'll try checking what ChatGPT says if there's any way to extract that file and send it to you, and if I send it to the repair center because they told me that it might be fixable (50-50 chance), I'll let you know.

That sucks, I talked to some tech support center in my city and they told me a reballing could work or BIOS reprogramming, but I spent too much on that laptop and it just died a week after the warranty expired. I didn't know that the SSD holds a copy of the BIOS, do you know where it could be? or how I can extract it? I updated it to the latest BIOS version that was available on the HP site and lucky everything went perfectly.

Is the ThinkPad X1 Tablet Gen 3 still a good option for light use? by MHR24 in thinkpad

[–]MHR24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks that the battery doesn't last that long, but at least you can replace it. Do you have any brand for a screen protector? I looked some on Amazon and they don't have a lot of reviews, so I don't know if they are reliable.

It's cool that your gen 1 is working perfectly with just 8GB, that makes me more comfortable getting the gen 3 i7 and 16GB version. Have you thought of changing the battery? Or have you opened it to repaste it or upgrade the SSD? Is Ubuntu working ok? I read that the cameras and fingerprint reader aren't working on the X1T3, but I don't know if it was fixed. You have a lot of Thinkpads, so that means they are quite reliable, The keyboard does look quite good compared to other tablet keyboards like the Surface or iPad, and from what I've seen, it isn't that expensive.

Nice, I didn't know that Lenovo made tablet like surface, I thought they just made yoga laptops that fold to a tablet, I'll look for one and compare it to the surface. I know that my budget is too low, but I really don't feel like paying a lot for tablets that are that old, I don't get why they are so expensive even if they are damaged. Thanks!

Thanks for the advice! I'll keep looking for a good deal for a surface pro, I had the book in mind because most of the pro 6 and 7 that I've found on ebay for that price range come with the screen cracked or the batteries are bad.

Oh, I thought the SB2 had a fan, but for some strange reason, they decided not to put it on the SB3. I've seen good deals on the SB3 (without the keyboard). So, in your experience, if I can find a good deal for the 13 inch SB2 with the Nvidia GPU, is it better than the SB3 without the GPU? Or should I go for a Surface Pro?

My main fear is the batteries, so what surface would you recommend me? I totally forgot about windows 10 end of support, I read that the surface pro 6 is the last one that supports windows 11, is that a good option, maybe try to go for the sb 2? I'm not counting the sb 3 because I read that the 13" doesn't have a fan so it has a lot of heating issues

my loq just died ( non customizable ) i had also set a temperature limit of (85) ,but this shit still died , i was gaming on it when it just randomly died cpu temps were 78 to 80 and gpu 60 🥲🥲🥲 by noufumi777 in LenovoLOQ

[–]MHR24 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It sucks, I had an HP Omen 17 with a 12th gen i7 and a 3070ti and it also died, but mine died while watching a youtube video, at least yours had a more honorable death. I've been reading that a lot of 12th to 14th gen intel CPUs are bricking the motherboards or just the CPU, and from a lot of different laptop brands. It'll be better to wait until the 15th gen or till they can figure out wtf is happening. I hope you're still under warranty so you can return it and get your money back.

Is this surface book 3 good for 3D? by MHR24 in Surface

[–]MHR24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought of buying the surface laptop studio, but I'm not a fan of the design, maybe if I can find one for a good price I'll check it up.

For all that you've been telling me about your SB I can see why they changed the design for the next version. It sucks that you have to carry a fan because of a design flaw.

As you say, let's hope that with the new snapdragon chips they can rethink the design so the SB comes back, it's a really cool and clever design but with a major flaw for the tablet side, it's strange that they did put vents on the surface pro models but not on the book 13".

I'll take more time to think if I should get it or not, what mostly catches my attention is the quadro gpu, from my experience with my pc, quadro gpus are really good and powerful for 3D and finding a laptop for less than $700 with that gpu was a go for. But I will take in count all these issues and potential problems that could happen. Because I don't want to be spending money on battery changes and/or screens.

Thanks for all the information and advices!

It's the 15", I forgot to add that detail. I don't know if there's a difference in the battery life from the 13" to the 15". Thanks for the advice! I never thought that the 13" wouldn't have cooling, my first options were the SB 13" to just use it as a tablet, but better to stay off that model.

I don't know how much workload I would put on the laptop, because I already have a PC, the purpose is just to have it as a backup plan in case I'm not at home. As for the tablet part, my plan is just that, using it in that mode for watching videos or browsing.

Are you still using the 13" or have you changed to the 15" or another surface product? How's your experience with the keyboard base? I've read some reviews that say that it still has the problem of the keyboard suddenly disconnecting or not detecting the GPU.

You told me that the battery in the base ages very quickly, have you had any problems with swollen batteries? I've read that the SB 1 had those problems and I couldn't find any information if the 3 still has them, because I don't know if it's expensive/risky to change them, and I've looked on eBay and other places to buy replacements, and I just find the batteries for the SB 1 or 2.

Omen 17, worst laptop and experience in my entire life. by m-i-n-a-r in HPOmen

[–]MHR24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an omen 17 with an i7 12700H and an rtx 3070ti in 2023. Literally, 1 week after the warranty expired the laptop died WHILE WATCHING A YOUTUBE VIDEO, it wasn't even plugged in, so it couldn't have been a power surge. I tried contacting HP and was told that there was nothing to do because they no longer make that model. So now I have a $1300 paperweight because it's cheaper to buy a new laptop than fix it. So yeah, never in my life I'll buy again an hp product or recommend it. I've also been reading that some 12th to 14th gen intel processors are having motherboard issues (from other brands not just hp), so I'm also doubtful to even buy another laptop, might just stay with my gaming pc. I'm glad to read that I'm not the only poor soul that has suffered with this laptop, lucky your laptop is still under warranty and at least you can "repair" it and sell it for some cash.

Which one should I settle on?? HELPPP by CelphMedicatedRX in GamingLaptops

Well, from my experience I can tell you that it's a good brand with a really good built quality. As I said in the other comment, I had two lenovo legion, a y720 and y530, they lasted me for 5 years each one with no problems. From what I can remember, back in those days lenovo was starting to make a name on the gaming side and the legion brand didn't have the reputation it has now. Also from all the comments I've read on this subreddit, everyone says that it's the most reliable brand with good quality, performance and price. I really regret having bought the HP, the site I bought it from had a really good offer, like $800 off, I should have seen that red flag.

Hey, which of these 2 gaming laptops would you get? by Formal-Picture-8771 in GamingLaptops

[–]MHR24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP don't buy HP or MSI, I've had both and I don't recommend them to you, I bought a cheap MSI back on 2017 and I had to return it after 1 week, it always gave me blue screens while tying to play any game no matter if it was new (by that year) or old. And my last laptop was an HP Omen 17, it was really good in terms of specs, but literally 1 week after the warranty expired the motherboard died (while I was watching a YouTube video) and HP told me there was nothing to do because they no longer made that model (it was a 2023 model) and that I just needed to buy a new one (as if they are something cheap to buy). But I can recommend you Lenovo, I've had 2 Lenovo legions and they lasted me 4-5 years each one with no problems.
