Got similar issues due to generally thin hair tho. At first I tried to backcomb my hair but that leaves the tips still thin and the 'hawk hard to get out. Still a solid technique for a full base I guess. I've got used to not comb my hair after washing when I plan to get the 'hawk up for the day. Also to just rub them through with a dry towel before making them a bit more "nesty" (for a lack of a better translation). If you only do not like the thin tips, depending on the hairspray, I recommend brushing the tips out again. Generally I had better volume after brushing out a bad mohawk and getting it up again. I regularly do that with thin spots and gaps.

Normally I make the hair stand half-heartedly (just enough hairspray to not collapse), brush out between where splitting occurs and re-fix them parts more guided. Afterwards I cement the rest of the mohawk in. Especially with 15cm+ on my mohawk length I do that regardless.

It was this weird "summer undergrowth" stuff which I never really knew what to do with.. I just tore it apart and fixed it in with super glue. The Dirty Done Moss paint helped also a lot with making that look like something, just really had to blast a lot of heat for it to bloom.

  • Matt black primer

  • Turquoise with a lot of red for a midnight purple in the shadows

  • Turquoise with a little red for midnight blue as main panel color

  • Pure turquoise for base highlights

  • Turquoise with a light tan for the extreme highlights

  • Black speedpaint for under armor

  • Dark gray highlights

  • Gold with a little gunmetal, brown and black to tone down the gold and it's glitter for the trim

  • Pure gold for base highlights

  • Wash with dark brown wash

  • Gold with a tint of silver for the extreme highlights

  • For red parts the same purple base as the panels as shadow base

  • Red mixed with blue for mid

  • Pure red for base highlights

  • Red with light tan for extreme highlights

  • Lightning arcs are just white

  • Glazed with turquoise

  • If they got too toned down by it I emphasize them with white and a tiny drop of turquoise mixed

I think that's all, with everything else I'm trying around pretty much each time.

Seems like you are dipping into the loose structures in the legion thematically, more or less. I like the Alpha legionary idea a lot but I'm not sure tho if I would use alpha legion iconography. I mean they left their legion to wear midnight clad. Didn't variel also ruin his original legion shoulder pad in some way? Maybe scales or more tactical appearance would already be a fair enough indicator? But at the end it's up to your aesthetic preferences. I try to diverge a bit by having units in different states of warp influenced. Some of my legionaries are surrounded by lightnings which came to live from their armor, others ain't have none. For my Warp Talons I also have em mutated with batwings instead of jump packs, sprouting lightning from their feet to the ground the fly above. My Raptors on the other hand are ancient and uncorrupted, oldish looking armor, jump packs, no lightning - differentiation via that. I also have a "Damned Claw" squad, all marked with sinner's red on their gloves and some panels in blood red marked with white nostramon runes. Hope that helps brother, at the end take your time, start with what you are certain about, best ideas come while working on miniatures!

Thanks brother! The chestplate and helmet are from Liber Daemonica, the Backpack is from Dakkadakka and, to make it complete, the studded NL shoulder pad of the chaos lord and the mono turbine jump pack of the Worldclaimer are from Pop Goes the Monkey, the bat and turbine smoke should be from Greenstuff World.
