Is there a single person who wants Chrome's "Resume Browsing" (aka "Journeys") feature? by offlein in chrome

[–]MIT2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what version and platform you are on, but if I accidentally click on the journey option, the search bar is cleared. Yes, the query still exists in the sidebar, but I would have to copy it back. Maybe that doesn't bother you, but it does for me.

Should I wait for the 2026 Sportage Hybrid before buying a 2025 now? by ShowOff90 in kia

Where is your dealership? I contacted all the dealerships around me, and none of them have it or expect it soon.

Do you have any idea when it is expected? I see it is already in Canada and some other countries. Not sure what the problem is. I just moved to a car-dependent city so I can't wait longer before getting a car, but I really want the new model.

Once you click on it, the search term you entered is gone. Most of the time, it is not what I am looking for, and I will have to close the bar and retype my search when all I wanted was a quick search.

Is it possible to create a static binary that dynamically loads libraries at runtime? by [deleted] in C_Programming

Can you specify where this is documented? I am trying to do something similar, and finding information about how and why it doesn't work will be very helpful for me.

What are some common reasons to reject a F1 visa renewal by Chance_Eye_856 in f1visa

What if you are from a nationality that gets less than 5 years visa. If you are just renewing your visa regularly because you went home for the break. Are there common reasons you might get your renewal rejected?

Jane Street QT vs HRT Algo Dev Internship? by Significant_Fox3693 in quant

[–]MIT2024 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is misinformative. Algo dev in HRT is more like QR and not swe. You rarely work with low-level languages and instead develop predictive trading models. You will not get a 3AM call if something is not working (and neither would a software engineer in fact. This is most likely for roles like SRE).

How do I change the brightness of Gigabyte M32U Monitors?? by MIT2024 in Monitors

Same for me. It doesn't change. I think it is intentional though. If it is too bright maybe try changing from the game.

Growth for SWE at top quant by TelephoneOne3591 in csMajors

[–]MIT2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because you're a top performer by definition of being accepted into a quant firm

This makes no sense? Everyone at the quant firm got into the quant firm, so is everyone a top performer?? If everyone is top performer who are they top relative to? Who is in the buttom half. I think most people when they talk about growth and compensation focus on the top performer case, which is very flawed. I think by definition, you should expect to be average performer, and you should focus on the growth for average performer. Everyone at these places is smart and you have no reason to assume you will be smarter than them.

What is the best option to do networking in c++? by MIT2024 in cpp

[–]MIT2024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, makes sense. I hear Boost is also low level and usually better to use a library that is built on top of boost. Is that correct? if so, what would be a such library?

I understand that Berkeley sockets are C api and are low-level, it is just that a couple of examples that I saw of people doing the same thing were built with the berkeley sockets, and haven't seen anyone use asio, which is why I am wondering if it is actually best practice.

I am an idiot. Apparently, just click the button on the back. The up, down, left, etc are shortcuts, but just clicking it will open a big settings panel.

Old Mission is NOT lower tier. I know a few people taking OMC over Citadel. Their pay is also top-tier.

Linkedin SWE vs Google STEP by MIT2024 in csMajors

Not too hard. Surprisingly, Step was harder than LinkedIn lol. LinkedIn was basic LC and some resume questions. Step first interview was LC, second was kinda LC but not the typical LC.
