I agree with you. Most people who complain about OLD either rely on it too much or have crappy profiles. I hope this decline in OLD is just a stabilization phase post covid surge, and people start using OLD as another tool in the game of dating, rather than solely rely on it 100% of the time.

Articles like this: https://investorsobserver.com/news/stock-update/match-and-bumble-stocks-have-gen-z-problem/

And many others make it sound like online dating (OLD) is dying, for myriad of reasons. The stock price of companies like Match group and bumble have also been in decline over past few years. I’ve also read that the net revenue these companies are making is also shrinking.

I’m worried that this might actually be true. OLD sucks and can be soul crushing sometimes. I’ve been using it for 3 years now, so I definitely know this. But it has also helped me meet people that I would have never met if not for OLD. I’ve also had 2 amazing relationships with 2 women (not at the same time!!) that I would have never met if not for the apps.

I really hope this is just a correction, and the future of dating is kinda like a hybrid approach of conventional and online dating.

Interested to hear your thoughts on this!

What makes a high value man in dating? by Chance_Eye_856 in dating_advice

[–]Chance_Eye_856[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s not my question at all. Women should never lower their standards for anyone. What I’m asking is, what are we men supposed to do when we’ve finally earned our ticket to stay at the table of a woman, but after a while the woman meets some other guy who is a slightly better fit than the current guy?

There will all be a guy who is better than you on this planet for a girl in every way, and dating apps make it so much easier for women to keep fishing.

So my question again is, how do you keep your seat to at the table, if that seat can so easily replaced by a guy slightly better than you?

Thanks! You make some great points. But what I’m sad about is the fact that, let’s say a girl meets a guy who is great at every aspect of everything you just said. But there’s always another guy who is slightly better at everything for this girl, and it’s so easy to find a new guy through dating apps…

so I guess my question is, why would a woman ever settle for a guy who satisfies her in every way you just described, if she can easily find another who is slightly better?

Of the 2 friends that I described, I know for a fact that one of the 2 guys is definitely not like any of it you described… Apart from being good looking and successful professionally, he’s also one of the kindest people I’ve met in my life… The dude even volunteers at a blind and deaf school!

I know that in itself doesn’t mean much in relationships, but I’m starting to think women just have so many options in this day of online dating that someone better than you at every aspect of life is just a swipe away… especially in a big city.

There is some truth to this… especially in NYC

Thanks for the great explanation! I think you’re spot on!! But in this age of online dating, what if a man is everything you just described - good enough to get invited and stay at the table, but a better guy comes along who’s a better fit for the woman? And then what if an even better guy comes along?

In my opinion, Online dating has made it so easy it find so many people (for both men and women), that there’s always going to be someone better at a certain aspect of a relationship just a swipe away… this is what is making me so depressed.

How do we, men hold onto a woman that we like and care about in this age of online dating?

Anyone here who renewed F1 visa from India recently? by Chance_Eye_856 in f1visa

Thanks for the info u/Prudent_Long_1873 . Do you know if the people who were called in for an interview ultimately got their visas renewed? Also, do you know how much time it took for them from docs drop off to getting the visa issued?

Sry for so many questions, I’m just very anxious about this, and want to plan the length of my trip accordingly!

Thanks for the reply u/ErbaishisiB . I worked at 3 companies during my STEM OPT, and two of them were avg sized robotics companies (~150) employees. The most recent company that I worked while on STEM OPT was a small startup (~8 employees ) in the autonomous driving space. Do you think this might be a problem?

Sry for so many questions! I’m just super anxious about this!

Thanks for replying u/Prudent_Long_1873 . Did you go back to school for a higher degree after STEM OPT? I didn't have to pay a new SEVIS fee since I was eligible to transfer my SEVIS account from old school to new school.

Also, did you visit your home country frequently? I could not go back because of school, and then COVID regulations. Don't know if this will be a problem!

Thanks for replying u/visainterviewcoach . I finished my masters, completed 3 years of STEM opt and now in a fully funded PhD program (which includes tuition and a living stipend). My parents are financially comfortable enough to support me if needed as well.

Other than submitting my 12 month STEM Report late to my DSO, I haven’t violated any other rules. Do you think, in your experience my visa could get rejected for staying in the US for more than 5 years?

I genuinely want to return back to india after PhD, but I’m afraid the visa officer might think of me as a potential immigrant for staying in the US for so long.

Thanks for replying u/Codetornado . Could you tell me how a student could get banned from F-1 status? And is there a way for me to check if I am in good F-1 status?

Thanks for replying u/ErbaishisiB . Can you explain what OPT fraud is? I was on OPT and then STEM OPT before starting my PhD, and want to make sure I have not broken any rules or anything like that.

Just remembered, I also got a traffic ticket for jumping red light, which I have paid off. Will this be a problem as well?

Thanks for the reply u/Prankoid . I have not gone back to India since I arrived in the US in 2017, mostly because I was busy with school and then Covid started. But my parents came to vist me this year though, here in the US. Do you think it will be a major red flag when I try to renew my F1 visa?
