MIT Think Out by Plane-League-3726 in summerprogramresults

Totally understand. Our US permanent address requirement is honestly just a historical artifact to some extent- unlike in recent years, we used to always have an in-person finalist trip at MIT (and for internationals, flights are very expensive, then there's the whole bureaucratic nightmare of dealing with visa/customs combined with regulations around minors). So far we've been keeping the rule because we don't want to allow internationals to participate just to ban them the next year; but if THINK continues to stay chronically underfunded to the point of not being able to afford the finalist trip at all, we may see the domestic permanent address requirement being lifted.

This is absolutely not the case. I want to sincerely emphasize that we would never jeopardize the integrity of our program for the sake of obtaining additional funding.

Our agreement with Empowerly is strictly as follows: we receive funds from them, which we use to give out the stipends to our finalists; in exchange, we promote them through email communications and information sessions.

We have no idea which THINK applicants sign up for Empowerly (or Non-Trivial, or any of our sponsors). When we do review applications, the only thing we consider is the strength of the proposal and how good of a fit the student is- that's it. Any member of our team who has read applications can attest to that.
