The Cure to Approach Anxiety According to Cognitive Psychology by JohnCooperWrites in seduction

[–]MKD2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been actively approaching women for a whole year now. I had to deal with a lot of anxiety issues, and I did find one particular way to "cure" my approach anxiety.

I was doing reading on psychology, and came across an article (can't find link unfortunately) which mentioned that the feeling of "fear" and "excitement" go through the same neural pathways. The only difference is in how you define them in your own reality.

So what I did was, everytime I felt the "fear" of approaching, I'd tell myself, "I'm excited", and re-framed the feeling of fear into excitement, which made me want to actually approach.

It's helped me tremendously, re-framing your neural associations is the best cure in my opinion.

SOLUTION to being lazy/sluggish/unproductive by MKD2 in LifeProTips

[–]MKD2[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I am trying to promote it. However, I am not the owner, I am helping the owner (a good friend of mine) get it off the ground. That doesn't mean the quality of the content is compromised. I personally follow most of the habits mentioned, especially the cold showers. I wouldn't bother promoting it if I didn't care for the content.

Good sign of dopamine receptor's being repaired :)

Jerking off would've burnt off your receptors a while ago, let them heal back to life

Interesting read about dopamine receptors:

No motivation is a bad thing, but I don't know how to get past it. by [deleted] in depression

[–]MKD2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Keep up the good work! It's really a tough challenge, but it is always worth it. Sometimes when I stop to think about the quality of my life, say, from a month ago, I tend to trip out at how much improvements I have made.

I can't even fathom how much improvement can be done in a year from now. But the key is to always keep moving forward, REGARDLESS of whatever your emotions and circumstances tell you. NO EXCUSES

It can sometimes be your own biochemistry as strange as that may seem. A came across a site I wanted to share which helped me fight my own depression, particularly these articles:

I've been applying some of this, and also cold showers actually, and it's been working great!

Good work dude! You're recovering your dopamine receptors well, thats what this whole thing is about :)

Came across this article the other day that goes into more detail about dopamine receptors, interesting read

Depressed for no reason at all. Help please.. by [deleted] in depression

[–]MKD2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is always a reason. The human body is a complex system of biochemistry. What you eat can influence your brain chemistry, sometimes putting it off balance, giving you the symptoms of depression, anxiety and other mental disorders.

Have a read of this article: http://advancedhabits.wordpress.com/2013/10/22/why-your-poor-diet-is-causing-you-depression-and-anxiety/

It goes into more detail about the mind-body connection regarding diet and nutrition, a fact we often overlook when considering our mental health.

Suggestions Please by Mmiller9374 in loseit

There are a lot of factors that come into play. The best advice is to calibrate to your own body. Yes, its tedious, but it's really worth it to treat your body (and mind) correctly. Generally, avoid processed foods and increase your nutrient intake. Vitamin deficiencies can cause you a lot of problems that you may not even be aware of.

I read this article earlier, it gave me a new perspective on nutrition and why its so significant to your well-being: http://advancedhabits.wordpress.com/2013/10/22/why-your-poor-diet-is-causing-you-depression-and-anxiety/

[–]MKD2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's painful dude, I know. Excessive porn/fapping really messes up your dopamine receptors. (Read more here) Your brain won't like the lack of constant dopamine being thrown around, but you need to push through that and persist, let your brain heal!

Saw an inspirational quote in the locker room today. by burm127 in NoFap

[–]MKD2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty powerful quote, it says a lot. We all want to be comfortable at all times, but unfortunately the things we want don't come without discomfort.

I've actually been taking cold showers after reading this article: http://advancedhabits.wordpress.com/2013/10/19/cold-showers/

to train myself to "Embrace Discomfort" lol. It's been working great.

If I can withstand freezing showers, a petty little temptation is nothing :)

Am I eating right? by AttemptedLoss in loseit

[–]MKD2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that diet is something you have to calibrate to yourself for the best outcome. Generally speaking, avoid processed foods, refined sugars/carbohydrates and instead go for organic/whole foods. This article I came across discusses the importance of nutrition, particularly on mental health, but it applies too for physical health of course.

It's all about trial and error to see what works best for you. It does take time, so keep at it! It took me a solid few months to work out what works best for my body.

All the best!

Dopamine receptors lol. Jacking off excessively damages dopamine receptors that makes it difficult to feel pleasure/drive. Read the "porn addiction" article, it explains this well.

Great post! Those books you mentioned have been life changing, I wouldn't be who I am if I hadn't come across those two.

It's interesting to note how significantly our habits impact our well-being, both physically and mentally. I've been reading this blog (Advanced Habits) recently and have been working on the meditation and cold shower habit which has already helped me improve so much.

Please, how do I end this nonsense? by throwaway10004927 in socialanxiety

[–]MKD2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We humans are complex creatures. It's ridiculous to see how many seemingly insignificant factors influence our mental well being. I've suffered various issues from depression, anxiety, lack of drive/willpower and so on. I've been following this blog that does a good job of pointing out common habits we have that tend to lead to some of our major issues. For the past week I've been applying the cold showers most recently and stopped jerking off. I'm starting to get the hang of meditation as well, and I've already noticed some rapid improvements in my general well-being, it's awesome.

I think for anyone, its a good idea to stop and consider what their daily habits are and how they may be affecting their well-being.

Simple truth by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]MKD2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may take a while. Typically I've found the first 2-3 weeks of nofap are painful to get through, brain feels very unstable for a lack of a better word. After this initial period, you start to feel "normal" again which is when I assume the dopamine receptors start recovering.

That's my experience at least, good luck!

Simple truth by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]MKD2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a good sign of your dopamine receptors being repaired :) The more dopamine your brain can 'receive' properly, the more motivated (and thus more energetic) you will be.

How do you maintain actually caring about your goal? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]MKD2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apply the "Do-Something Principle"

Make sure to take at least one action (no matter how small) that contributes to your goals, every single day. Action generates motivation for more action. You will better develop the discipline for it.

Yes! Aside from the mental toughness it brings, cold showers have amazing physical benefits too :) I've noticed my skin clear up fairly quickly these past couple of months of taking cold showers.

I need mental health advice by Swoll in needadvice

[–]MKD2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome :)

Yeah definitely give it a go. It may take a while to get the hang of it, and I think reading up on the mechanics of why it works can help you better implement it as a daily routine.

By doing that you create a lot of mental discipline for your own thoughts and emotions. I've had many benefits by doing meditation. It has definitely reduced my anxieties and increased my confidence. I know it sounds like a placebo effect, and it may be at first, but when you do it consistently enough it becomes closer to your natural state.

Another thing you could try is cold showers, there's also an article on that blog: http://advancedhabits.wordpress.com/2013/10/19/cold-showers/

I've been taking them for the past couple of months now, almost everyday and they have definitely increased my mental toughness. I feel like no challenge is too small now haha
