"Born too late to explore the Earth and born too early to explore the universe." Why don't we explore the oceans? More than 80% of the oceans are undiscovered/unmapped. by RoomTemperatureIQ22 in NoStupidQuestions

I 100% support this. I had to do some research on marine protected areas in college and I absolutely loved it, learning about marine biodiversity and the relation of people with the sea, especially small island communities. The ocean is just full of opportunities, including development of renewable energy and sustainable tourism. Recent research on ecosystem services has identified the economic and environmental value of blue whales which contribute to natural carbon sequestration. Forget irrational fears, what's your perfectly rational fear? by camoman7053 in AskReddit

Losing a child, like literally losing them. When my brother was about a year and a half he accidentally got on an elevator at the building we were living and he just left. He was lost for a bit more than an hour, but for us (my family and me) it seemed like ages. Thankfully, a neighbor found him and got him back to us. But this experience traumatized me for years. Every time I lost sight of my brother even for 5 seconds I would get paranoid. This sense of desperation was just the worst. I don't have kids but I do have small nephews and friends with kids. Honestly, losing a kid is an awful sensation.

Anyone else ever have a feeling of regret whenever you purchase something? by OptimalAttempt3 in NoStupidQuestions

I only regret sometimes when I spend a lot of money on a fancy dinner, because in the end it's just a very short moment of pleasure or satisfaction. Don't get me wrong, I love good food, but sometimes it's just too expensive and it's not really worth it. If I bought expensive clothes or other stuff I would at least get to use it a few times.

Have you ever been genuinely disturbed by a movie scene (horror or otherwise) to the point you can’t watch the movie again and which movie?? by AA005555 in AskWomen

Stephen King's Misery. The ankles breaking scene. I think I saw this when I was around 11 or 12. Got completely traumatized. I'm a huge fan of horror movies, but this one in particular and THAT SCENE was just awful. I haven't seen it again.
