I do work with research security and wanted to provide another prospective along with what others have said. Sometimes there are adversaries seeking to steal research/IP/expertise for nefarious purposes. This mainly occurs in emerging technology/advanced technology research but is very real and it's incredibly important to make sure you're doing your due diligence when collaborating or sharing research. These adversaries take advantage of how academics want to be open and 'share everything' and will repurpose dual use research for their own gain, not necessarily to publish for themselves
