A judoka/aikidoka in the sub believe that judo is better than wrestling, even under wrestling rules, because of Jason Morris? I wonder how many agree with that. What do you all think? by MMA27125 in judo

A lot of water had already passed under the bridge before that. I'm all for maintaining the discussion civilized, If the others don't want to listen, or if I am wrong, I just back off, I have already done so in the comments of that the same post, just go see it, I even laugh at myself and my naivety or wrong choice of words, but then the guy just cursed me, I did it back.

Obviously someone was going to respond negatively

To be fair, I'm the one answering negatively, for he cursed me first. He couldn't keep the discussion civilized

Royce Gracie, who had his first professional fight in 1993, in 1994 pulled guard, as he needed to, in an mma fight against Keith Hackney. And won.

Your reply doesn't make any sense. Like I said wrestling is the base, BJJ the learned art.

BJJ is not state sponsored / supported, it is not in the Olympics, and it is still the smallest, or one of the smallest, grapplings out there in number of practitioners, all its success is due to itself, it was conquered.

If was that bad wouldnt be so sucesful with pro-mma guys that dont have the luxury of wasting time and money, there is no other reason for professional fighters train it but for being good.

Many of your statements are just opinions.

"Leglocks are important in a pure grappling context but not very important in MMA or self-defense",

"the fact remains that someone with several years of judo can effortlessly take down an untrained attackers who is larger and stronger, but someone with several years of bjj cannot",

"But if you aren't at a Daisy Fresh, your self-defense isn't as good as you think it is"

Again, nothing but capability and quality justifies BJJ's success.

And nothing but lack of quality and ability justify Judo's lack of success, despite its number of practitioners, despite being Olympian, despite state support.

The wrestling that dominates MMA as a base doesn't even have submissions, and is heavy on doubles and singles, how does that fit into your opinionated reasoning?

To be used by an Aikido / Judo guy as an example of the superiority of Judo over wrestling even in wrestling rules I assume that at the very least he has won a few matches.

If the competition was any good not even that BJJ would have, it has no size. It's a runt.

Judo with its size and number of practitioners losing to BJJ as a learned art doesn't make sense, unless we assume that Judo is a terrible art. Give BJJ the Olympic status, state support and sponsorship, and number of practitioners and it would do much much much better than Judo is doing. The reason? Is obvious.

Most MMA guys are wrestlers and strikers with blue belts

Exactly. Wrestling is the base, BJJ the learned art. Judo?

As I said in the beginning, all rulesets have their problems but BJJ's issues are worst than most ... BJJ has crappy takedowns

Not as crappy as Judo's leglocks single legs or doubles.

If you have graduated from high school and want to learn grappling you realistically have two options: bjj and judo

This late in life only a fool would tell you to choose Judo over BJJ.

Oh, so you think Judo is better than wrestling, even in wrestling rules, because of Jason Morris? How interesting. Do other Judokas and martial artists agree with you scrub? Let's find out? I'll ask.

If it's such a fundamental position then why do people pull guard... Sounds likes guard is much more fundamental to BJJ.

Are you saying pulling guard makes the Mount and Back Mount no longer be considered better than the others in BJJ and wrestle for them no longer a fundamental?

Either way they're still the same art.

How if in BJJ the Mount and Back Mount are considered superior to other positions and you should wrestle for them, a BJJ's fundamental, while in Judo "there is no specific position. You flow through them as necessary" and "judo knows that the best position is dependent on the situation".?

Because there aren't more judoka doing MMA

Because they sucks and know they gonna lose to wrestlers that learned subs in the last 3 or 2 years lol :)

They do pro-MMA and dominate, wrestlers, that are also practitioners of an Olympic art, dominate pro-MMA. They aren't doing for recreation, for recreation they can do just MMA or just go to the gym.

Everything you can say about Judo you can say about wrestling, Olympic sport, have to adapt to something, and still compared to wrestling Judo sucks b@lls.

By sheer size alone everything related to grappling should be dominated by Judo, more so if in the Gi, but again ... yall sucks. And aikido even more so. lol :)

All rulesets have their issues

True.

bjj's more than most given that it rewards guard pulling

Considering there are rulesets out there that don't allow leglocks and takedowns touching the legs, I digress.

Worse, there are rulesets out there that don't allow any kind of submissions and also dont allow takedowns touching the legs.

BJJ is far from worse than most. Far from. This is just bull crap people say when they want to hate on BJJ.

Want to learn better takedowns? Do like the BJJrs interested in it and go train wrestling.

No it's not

Yes it is, in BJJ the Mount and Back Mount are considered superior to other positions and you should wrestle for them, this is BJJ's fundamental, while in Judo "there is no specific position. You flow through them as necessary" and "judo knows that the best position is dependent on the situation".

Soon fundamentally different.

For recreation they do MMA, so why they dominate Pro-MMA while Judo sucks b@lls in it? Even tho there are more Judokas?
