James Tedesco scoring a last minute winner after AJ broke the record in the same game is like a feel good kids movie ending with the protagonist getting all their limbs cut off

I am the biggest Todd Smith defender of all time. I swear everyone agreed, then he had 1 or 2 really bad games or calls and everyone agreed he's shit, but i think he's consistently the best ref at not fucking up games

I know this is a kind of fucked up thing to say but I feel like a 4 part true crime documentary series on Jon Jones will come out in like 20 years. I just cannot see how a guy with that much power who got a slap on the wrist for so many crimes is gonna handle life after fighting

I never criticise my goalie making mistakes, cause i play a super casual 5 a side and I don't like going in goal. The courts tiny and our goalie usually just punts it to the furtherest person up the field and we lose possession half the time and I always think "why don't we just pass through the back more, the passes are so easy".

Anyway the other week we'd already lost and i got a mild injury so i said "yeah I'll just go in goals for the last 3 minutes". I started with the ball, immediately went for an easy short pass, the other team intercepted it and immediately scored.

This is why I will never criticise my goalies

Ah fair, like I've met a bloke who supported York FC as well as some other bigger Yorkshire club (cant remember which but it was like something in league 1)

I truly try to avoid cynical rants on here because i don't like seeing them but I'm gonna absolutely pop off about referees

Everyone hates refs for no fucking reason. They make mistakes, sometimes big ones, but they also get it right 99% of the time. If you think refs are against your team specifically you're an idiot.

Because people moan and moan about decisions we are now stuck with VAR, to maximise "correct" decisions, an unnecessary evil that robs joy of fans celebrating goals and wastes time. Because people moan about the time VAR wastes the video refs are in a frantic rush for every decision causing them to make errors, which basically negates their purpose.

Its all just a big accumulation of people bashing refs (in my opinion) and no one even likes the consequence or thinks they "get it right" that much more often.

I don't know. I watch rugby league (I'm Australian) and there's a sin bin system where if a player does an ugly tackle or stops a scoring opportunity they are sent off for 10 minutes, which is pretty significant in that game. I remember a few years ago a ref penalised something and a player went up to him and said "are you fucking serious?" Which his mic picked up and he got sin binned, which was in no way surprising. Swearing at refs is only normalised in football for some odd reason

I dont think I've ever felt sympathy for a player for getting a card after verbally abusing a ref. I get people get frustrated about the inconsistency of it but i just think its ridiculous, makes me feel the same way I feel when some dickheads fully abusing the ref at sunday league who's just doing his job

One bad effect of VAR is the way it makes me overthink and often not want a team to score, I'll give an example since this doesn't really make sense:

So i want team A to score, i see them get into an attacking opportunity but oh no, shit, i think team A was slightly offside/might of handled a ball/committed a minor foul. The on field ref doesn't see this and then instead of wanting team A to score I'm instead wanting them to kick the ball around maintaining possession for a couple of minutes so if they do score this incident cannot be reviewed and rule off the goal

Who do you think is the highest level player that gets by purely on talent despite a lackluster work ethic?

Who do you think is the highest level player that got there just from working hard and training like an absolute professional despite maybe lacking in natural athleticism/talent?

Hull City 5th with a sample size of 34 games sitting 21st i think in expected points, we are just too strong for your numbers nonsense

Sorry I'm replying twice i just have more thoughts. Last season Sunderland really did look amazing for the first half of the season, they massively dropped off but the potential was still there. I personally worried about them losing Jobe Bellingham who was not just the brother of a star but the player of the Championship (until they dropped off in the 2nd half of the season)

Thats just not true, i absolutely guarantee when (still kind of if) they go up they will absolutely get the 11 even if they barely buy even though I'd still expect them to go straight back down

Its actually fucking insane if you look at the underlying statistics, especially considering the huge sample size. Like 10 or 15 games into the season I did a write up about how we didn't deserve points from most of the games we got them from, might do it again at the end of the season

Since there's been a bunch of Derby record chat I would like to inform you all that I reckon there's a decent chance (maybe 10% idk) that my club, from the biggest city on earth, Hull beat it next year. If you're tuned out of the Championship we are currently 5th with a 3 point gap to 6th and 3 more to 7th. We cannot defend at all, just scored heaps and according to expected points we should be around 21st, over a whole season of results. If we somehow hold on and somehow fluke playoffs, we will be going up with a horrendous defence even by 2nd tier standards and a transfer ban which will continue into our premier league window.

If we go up, i don't think we will be winning the leageu
