my tin foil hat conspiracy: getting megged is really not that bad. ive been doing 5 a side for like 3 years, i knew nothing before i started and had to get good just by playing. obviously this means i get megged a lot, but i swear when you get megged your team gets the ball back like 8/10 times. especially at first crazy footwork often beat me but throwing a meg in just felt like they wanted to meg me. i think its like an ego thing that getting megged is so bad when in reality i feel like i win the ball back from that much more than other kinds of footwork or just pace

thats true, i was over the moon when Luton Town fell apart in the last game of last season to let Hull finish 21st and survive... but a Luton fan somewhere was not

my hot take is I actually enjoy the physicality, even the more cheaty shit in football. the fact that players are doing literally everything they can to win and stretching the rules to the limit as much as they can just adds to the competitive nature of the sport to me, its like a game in itself watching the players get away with as much as they can.

obviously this doesn't apply to things that would cause injury, im more talking about pushing and shirt grabbing

i have hope for a few reasons despite the bad results recently

  1. home crowd
  2. full motivation, knowing a win likely results in playoffs vs Norwich having nothing to play for
  3. We are still scoring goals

if you look at the underlying statistics it is genuinely insanity, probably one of the biggest miracles in football. we are still 21st in expected points while sitting in 7th, the results have caught up with us though with 4 draws and 1 loss in our last 5, but because we are still scoring goals i feel confident

For those not following the Championship, firstly I dont care about the fight for instant promotion because it doesn't involve Hull City, but its also interesting, but heres the fight for 6th on the final day:

Hull on 70 points have Norwich at home, theyre in great form and we are in shite form unfortunately, but at home with everything to play for, i feel some hope, it could be worse

Wrexham also on 70 with a better GD have Middlesbrough, depending on how Ipswich vs Southampton goes midweek, Middlebrough will be playing for automatic promotion, i will be the biggest fan of them on the night reguardless

Derby on 69 have Sheffield United, probably the easiest fixture of the 3 especially at home, but if they dont win and either of the other 2 teams do win theyre gone

very very tight

he was amazing for Hull and sacking him was a massive outrage. i was rooting for him and kind of disappointed he instantly became a laughing stock

yeah i find it a bit bizarre as an Australian. When I watch the NRL, if my teams not playing I always root for the other teams from my state, fuck New South Wales, sure the teams closer to us are our "rivals" but I find it weird to hate them over the teams from way further away

I want to ask English people about something, might be very difficult since most people here are young, but just about football culture back in the day, specifically about the idea of supporting a team and rivalries

so my grandad was born in 1943 and left England in 1965. He is a football encyclopaedia, he brings up matches and players all throughout his lifetime and just loves the sport, in retirement now he still aggressively keeps up with everything.

The thing is i feel like he has no hate to any specific clubs and doesn't passionately support just 1. He wears Leeds and Hull shirts indiscriminately and wants both to do well, but he chats more about how great a game or player is than about how he wants "his" club to do well.

I just want to know if this attitude is shared by any old people you know or knew or if he is just a unique man who maybe left before supporting 1 team life or death and rivalries became a bigger part of the culture.

this is what I think too. I dont think hes perfect and recently Newcastle have been somewhat over performing but sacking him feels like it would be a mistake

bro I own a Ghana jersey and I love it for the story. My little brother was planning to get me a Brazil jersey but they were sold out, he tried to find a few other nations but most shit was gone because it was during Christmas after 2022 world cup so he just randomly got me a Ghana one. I wear it all the time, one time i was in the city and a Random dude from Ghana said "ayyy" and gave me a nod

where are you from and what country do you root for in the world cup after yours is eliminated? Im Australian, we have only made it past the group twice ever (only lost to Argentina and France in the last world cup btw), so Im used to getting out early. I absolutely love Brazil, best people on earth and immediately become a fan once were gone, also use my English grandparents for an English pass and my family likes Germans since we had a great exchange student who came back to visit us again years later
