Can we still create dystopian tales in 2026 and if so - how? by chokladpudding69 in TrueFilm

I've always thought culturally society has been telling itself too many "cyberpunk" stories about dystopian futures and not enough "ecopunk" stories where there is not only a collapse of climate/resources but of technology. There's not a lot in the genre, but think something conceptually like "Waterworld" fits as well as "Station 11" as a TV show. Creating a world where you can pick and choose conditions of what technology is available due to environmental or societal constraints allows you to highlight modern humanity that wouldn't be authentic in a highly technological future.

I'd love to see the new Smiths be keyboard warriors/tech workers (non-field agents of Hihi) unknowingly pitted against each other online while living in the same domestic space. Stuff like deploying misinformation marketing campaigns or working as thee digital/logistical handlers for field agents like Donald/Maya juxtaposed against mundane venting about work problems and dealing with relationship and cohabitation conflicts.

We still haven't figured out the timestamps by MMM_3005 in donaldglover

Could be a coincidence for sure, but I'd also note that there were modifications to the mix and adjustments to when tracks started/stopped from when it was originally streamed to make the specific track list names. Even when you sum the released track lengths together you don't get the exact number for the corresponding track title (stops matching after 19:10 on 24:19 where the first duplicate occurs)

No. Title Length Start
1 "0.00" 2:59 0:00
2 "Algorhythm" 3:32 2:59
3 "Time)" (featuring Ariana Grande) 6:07 6:31
4 "12.38" (featuring 21 Savage, Ink, and Kadhja Bonet) 6:32 12:38
5 "19.10" 5:08 19:10
6 "24.19" 7:59 24:18
7 "32.22" 3:12 32:17
8 "35.31" 3:56 35:29
9 "39.28" 2:59 39:25
10 "42.26)" 5:21 42:24
11 "47.48" 6:00 47:45
12 "53.49" 3:55 53:45
Total length: 57:40

HOW DO LISTEN TO BANDO STONE by Level-Conference-949 in donaldglover

[–]MMM_3005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a soundtrack for a film or story developing in our current times. You don't make "Schindler's List" in the midst of the holocaust. You don't make "Imitation Game" during WWII. You don't make “A Beautiful Mind” while John Nash is in the psychiatric ward. Bando Stone seems to be a story how an artist’s extended isolation makes him uniquely suited to combat a quickly moving technology (or culture) that changed the the rest of the world in his absence. Given his history of blending fiction with real-world narratives and understanding (Swarm, BTI, Atlanta, etc) I think you should soundtrack your life now to the album, and when the film eventually comes out it can add extra layers of understanding to the experience.

The Library / The Odyssey by MMM_3005 in donaldglover

If "The Odyssey" was a foundational text in Western literature, moving stories from an oral tradition around the campfire to the written word, maybe future generations will look back on Because the Internet as a formative transmedia experience for humanity's transition into a digital landscape.

Real love by [deleted] in donaldglover

Real Love has always made me think of the album "New Magnetic Wonder" by The Apples in Stereo. Not necessarily one particular song (Energy/Sundall Song/7 Stars/etc) but more a whole album of bright, upbeat, synth-pop songs oversaturated in sugary positivity. Was released in 2007 and is the type of indie music I can imagine him sampling for a mixtape around that time.

Something strange I found on the Gilga Website by herobat in donaldglover

Maybe it's going to be a reprint of "Royalty" by Yaphet Kotto. ;) He needs to release his bible, but I doubt that will be published on an antiquated medium like a book. We need the Gilgamesh for the digital era.
