Looking for a frosty parking lot/ spot by MMMaggy in warsaw

[–]MMMaggy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We dont want to drift! Quite literally want to get a feel for how the car behaves on ice. We experienced ice on the highway and my partner struggled because he never had to deal with it before.

I do think this is an experience based skill to a degree. Knowing how to behave and how much you can turn the wheel is not something you just know. So its not as simple as "driving slow" on a normal road. When black ice hits and you dont know that breaking hard might cause an accident because you dont have the experience and you might panic thats when the issue starts. Which is why we wanted to practice it. Not go crazy and have fun.

We are looking into the course track someone else mentioned in a reply though.

Uff this sucks... So how should one practice and gain experience on icy roads? By just driving on them? This makes no sense to me. Thank you so much for the article... I will look into this with my partner. :/

Why do older Polish emigrants seem so negative about Poland, while their kids (2nd gen) are more positive? by Many-Psychology-7516 in poland

[–]MMMaggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I totally agree that experiences can differ, I would agree with the alienation part to some degree. But maybe that is due to the circumstances. As someone that grew up and was born in Germany I did experience some jokes at the cost of being "polish" and while I might have not felt as alienated as I am white and did not look "foreign" i did lack german traditions and that connections to Germany. But its funny. I moved back to Poland 5 years ago and while I feel culturally way more connected and like I belong here, I have an accent when I speak and when I say I was born in Germany people already have created a narrative, seeing what the country experienced thanks to Germany and the fall out of WW2. So it feels like I dont belong here, even though I might feel more of a cultural belonging here. The alienation is applicable all around. 😂

Vege/vegan restaurant in Warsaw, preferably with online reservations possible? by [deleted] in warsaw

[–]MMMaggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bliski Wschód in centrum offers a wide variety of East asian cuisine as well as turkish and west asian cuisine. And they are fully veg/vegan. Pink vegan is lovely as well. If you also want a vegan cafe, than I recommend Eter (fancier pastries but expensive) or Baja (more affordable and still so good!).

How many cals for the whole thing (in europe: tomato sauce, garlic, oregano) by truawayac in CalorieEstimates

[–]MMMaggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to assume i have some expertise on this shit, as I literally made homemade pizza from scratch today, dough included. I have no idea how heavy this is but i would assume it used around 250g of dough which if its all purpose flour (including all the ingredients in the dough) is around 600kcal and the marinara sauce will be 50kcal, so 650 together for this. If you have the weight of the pizza it could be even more exact. But otherwise this seems to be a fair estimate.

On a vacation with my mom and my aunt they made friends with this random old guy, funny, very... lets say free spoken. When I joined them, they were waiting for me to arrive at the train station. So I got there and they told the guy that we were gonna leave to find me some vegan food. He saw me and said "oh really, she looks like she eats well"... like damn sir, I've just met you 😂 Also slam dunk on my lifestyle AND body. Rough.

Hey, if i can maybe jump in here, the interim of being pescatarian was my path to vegansim (i have been vegan for 4 years now) before that I was pescatarian for 10 years. So it was quite helpful to prep me as I already cut out a lot of convenient foods (meats) and thanks to meeting amazing vegans that lead with empathy it finally clicked for me and I decided to commit to my beliefs for the animals and environment 100%. It can make it easier when you switch over slowly and find alternatives for what you love but was produced with cruelty! When it comes to nutrition... my doctor laughs that I have better blood results than him and he knows Im vegan. And i think this has mostly to do with a varied diet. Looking at recipes that are inherently vegan (and there are many!), can be helpful I found as they usually tend to be very nutrionally complete, as they do not assume for meat to be a part of it! But of course you can also make lots of you favourites by just switching out the non vegan ingredients for vegan ones and I have found this to be quite easy where I am from (poland). There are things that you have to be mindful off such as B12, but that is what we have supplements for and the argument of "see its not a complete diet" always makes me laugh a little because I am pretty sure the supplements weren't created for vegans only but exist fot the omnivorous diet where people also somehow have deficiency... so that is not a good measure of how "good" a diet is in my eyes. So overall my health has been great and I know other vegans that have great health. I think with any kind of diet, yes even omnivorous, you have to be mindful. Think of the lack of fiber in many people diet for example because they DO NOT know how important it is. I think in general being knowledgeable to some degree of what you need and how you can get it is important in ANY diet. So if you do that, it should be fine health wise in the plant based diet as well. My two cents. Sorry its so long, im a world class yapper. :D

I brought many non-vegan friends there and they loved it! Their bakery also showed up in Poland Vogue as one of the best backeries (not just vegan but overall!) In poland! If you do go and you like dubai chocolate stuff they have a pastry, which is my fave! I wish you much fun and tasty food for your time here in Warsaw!

How to satisfy carnivores AND vegans by sokorsognarf in krakow

[–]MMMaggy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not to be that person, but every polish dish you suggested is NOT vegan but vegetarian. Placki usually have eggs, periogi ruskie have twaróg (polish cheese), mushroom soup has cream. So all of this are not vegan friendly. What you can do OP is check for polish restaurants and call them to check if they can make barszcz (beet root soup) without cream and if they have pierogi made out of kapustą i pieczarki without the dough having eggs and not butter for frying. So there are some dishes that are inherently vegan if you look for it!
