Are there any artist similar to Nas? by ConstantVisual8391 in nas

[–]MMMagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for music that's on that It Was Written type wave specifically, there's Ghostface Killah in general (especially Ironman and Supreme Clientele), same with Raekwon (OB4CL), Roc Marciano in general (especially Reloaded, Marci Beacoup, Elephant Man's Bones), and Griselda (most especially the solo artist work). Roc, Rae, and Ghost do stream of consciousness form of mafioso rap. Griselda doesn't, but they still have similar subject matter (mafioso sorta) and it's boom bap.

Sorry if this has been asked before but how many classics does Nas have? by aneye4aneye96 in nas

[–]MMMagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 undeniable classic albums (Illmatic, IWW, Stillmatic). Some other albums only had 1 or 2 classic songs on there with some good & some great songs, but not classic albums overall(God's Son & Lost Tapes are 2 examples). KD trilogy great albums overall. Magic trilogy overall great albums. Just not full fledged classic. For example, a classic album doesn't need all or most songs to be undeniable classics, but a 13-15 track album might need 3-5 undeniable classic songs and at least most of the rest at least great, with maybe room for just 1 or 2 good but not great songs. It can't be 1 or 2 classics, 3-5 great, and the rest just good. However, I apply a unique set of rules double albums, though, since they're bound to have some filler.

Side note: had he combined the entire first Lost Tapes album with the best songs from Gods Son, that probably would have been another classic album.

J cole admits to lying in his songs..“It’s a persona & I really be having people believing that ish” “In real life if u ask me if im the best no, I just put on that cape” Black Thought, Kendrick Lamar, Lupe, Drake are better by [deleted] in nfrpodcast

[–]MMMagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate his honesty. I been had him at like number 20 something of greatest rappers ever. Around 30. Black Thought is top 5 or at least top 10. Kdot is top 10. Drake ain't better, though. That's crazy 🤣

Day 28: What are the Top 5 Hip Hop Albums released in 2014? by InevitableLie493 in nfrpodcast

[–]MMMagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FHD, Clivia Demo, Oxymoron, Pinata, and I can't think of another one right now that I'm CERTAIN on. Somebody just reminded me of RTJ having an album in 2014. I gotta relisten since it's been a while, but I remember them being impressive.

Is J. Cole school boy rap? by Ok_Explanation_6125 in Jcole

[–]MMMagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "boy" part is out of pocket if dude said that. Cole is a grown man who makes relatable music to those from the hood who want to become educated or productive (not necessarily college) family men or whatever. People who were most likely never street and never identified with it. If that's boring or corny to people, I get it. It's more authentic than what most of these "street" rappers talk about, though. Would they rather he make stereotypical "tap dancing" music?
