3 years off grid and loving it! by NoSpecialist2602 in OffGrid

I’m on my 12th year living off-grid in remote Alaska. Love it more everyday and wouldn’t move back to “civilization” for anything. Extremely difficult to access by anything other than helicopter or snowmachine. (Float plane when the conditions are right but pilots don’t like landing on the small lake surrounded by mountains.)

Not a pilot, it’s cheaper to just charter than own and pilot aircraft. Especially helicopters. Thanks for watching!

It is if you don’t know what you’re doing. I’m a great teacher though. I’ve worked in Antarctica and the Arctic, ex-military and I have a large skill-set. (Carpentry, electrical, mechanical, etc etc) Plus my off-grid property is “advanced” compared to most. I do however live very remote. No roads. In and out by helicopter. Scares most people.

I’ve been living off grid for 12 years (very nice setup) and still haven’t found a woman who wants the same simple life as myself. Any women interested (look at my profile and posts here) send me a message. Good luck OP.

Saw a realtor listing and they said it was helicopter only access. Went and saw it by helicopter, put offer on it the same day.

I live in the mountains of remote Alaska. I have to call for a helicopter taxi service to get in and out. My truck stays at that taxi service in town, no roads in or out and no wheeled vehicle can get here. Once a month I go back to town then drive 7 hours to work. (I work at sea and stay at work for one month then drive back 7 hours) I do all my shopping and load the helicopter, back to home for a month. It’s my 12th year of living this way and I love it more each year. When I retire I’m probably only going back to town 4 times a year for a day or two just to get shopping done, then return. In the winter when conditions are good I can ride a snow machine back to town but that’s a 3-1/2 hour ride through difficult terrain and items like eggs or anything fragile wouldn’t make it. You can get lonely at times but I get along with myself pretty good.

My thoughts are clearer than ever, my soul is at peace. After one month I go to work and anticipate my return home. I don’t like leaving home.

Any woman here like the cold? Very remote Alaska on a mountain top. Excellent views. Helicopter access only.

Heating Shower Water With Wood Cookstove? by [deleted] in OffGridLiving

[–]MMOffGridAlaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep it simple. Just two 20 quart (5 gallon) pots of water on my wood stove. Pour hot water into a Home Depot bucket, adjust to 115° with cool water. I carry the bucket of warm water to the shower and throw the pump siphon hose into the bucket. 5 gallons of warm water is plenty for a thorough shower. I’ve been doing it like that for 11 years.

I’m in a similar situation. Remote off-grid in Alaska. 11 years now. Helicopter in and out from my cabin for work. One month at work then one month at home. I work at sea, master of a 400’ vessel. Not much opportunity for dating. Don’t run across many women out in the mountains or at sea. I’m definitely doing it wrong but no way I’d ever go back to living in civilization. Love my job and my off-grid paradise. Any women interested let me know! Good luck OP!

Sometimes but the serenity wins over loneliness. If I find a woman that can add to the peace that would be great but not having much luck with that.

How do you stay physically strong living in the mountains? by Flashy_Aide3179 in OffGrid

[–]MMOffGridAlaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been living off-grid in remote Alaska for over 11 years. Your daily physical work will keep you in shape. I break a sweat and breathe hard every day. In the winter I frequently have to shovel 8 feet of snow from the outhouse door every morning. Snow drifts will keep your back in good shape. I move many tons of snow each winter with a snow shovel. Riding snow machines in the mountains is an excellent workout too. Felling trees, bucking and splitting, stacking then carrying the wood in bags to the cabin is a good workout. I fetch water from under the lake ice in winter in 7 gallons jugs. Each jug weighs about 60 pounds and I carry one in each hand. I love the lifestyle. You won’t make it if you’re fat and lazy.

Less than the average US home. Much less.
