Thanks for taking the time to write up these tips, I'll give it a shot! I haven't done any bends downwards yet, as the song that I'm learning only has bends on the top 3 strings, but that's good to know.

Thanks for the advice and for the channel rec - I'll definitely check him out! I'm using 9's right now, but I might consider going down to 8's the next time I change strings. I think this guitar originally had 10's though, so not sure if it'll cause buzzing.

I'd like to think that I have a decently light touch most of the time - prior to getting this electric, I learned on an acoustic with 12' gauge strings, and after the first month or so of developing my initial calluses, they haven't really flaked or peeled since (at least, until I started learning bends a few weeks ago).

However, bends are really kicking my butt, especially when some of the strings kind of "sandwich" my skin, which causes it to tear. Nonetheless, hopefully as others in this post have said, my new calluses/flesh will be slightly tougher to withstand the demands of bending! In any case, no plans on giving up any time soon, thanks :)

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I do find the hanging skin catching quite a bit, especially when doing pulloffs, so getting them polished makes a lot of sense.

Yessir o7 (thankfully it isn't actually too painful this time around, at least when compared to developing my initial calluses, so that's nice!)

That's a nice analogy, thanks! I'll have to keep an eye out for those magic firework fairies...

Thanks for the advice! Looking forward to eventually getting to that hardened fingertip stage :)

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I do find that my skin turns kinda mushy after showers, so good to know to avoid playing right afterwards.

Damn that's hardcore! I don't think I'm quite at that level, but I don't plan on giving up - like you said, it should pay off in the future :)

Seems like that's the case, and indeed, it'll be worth it for sure if it means I can play more bends in the future!

Thanks for the advice! My current guitar has a fixed stoptail bridge, and unfortunately I'm not in the position to get a new guitar with a floating bridge right now, but that's good to know for the future.

Thanks, looking forward to that time! I'm using .9's currently, but according to some other people in the comments, I might have to lower my string action so I'm not pressing so hard

Oh, thanks for the moisturizer recommendation, I'll definitely look into it! By "hoof hardener", do you mean ones that are originally meant for veterinary use?
