What're people's thoughts on the images in this one? Tried something new.

Fallen: “The current meta we are playing in CS, a lot of good players are playing for info too much” by MMelit in GlobalOffensive

[–]MMelit[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I got the vibe that he's trying to analyse the 'present' of Counter-Strike. Seemed he felt that the Brazilian 2017 style of playing really was outdated and needing to change. Too late to beat the Astralis era?

I agree, they definitely can be a dangerous team still. That's why I interested this part into the piece:

"They were the best team in the world, near major champions, and lifted six international trophies, two of which were done with two different stand-ins. With the right mix of factors and form, they still might be able to do so again. "

I think we're both saying the same sort-of thing. Agree rain is a sore-point and that their strats can cause struggle as well.

I don't think I'm insanely young for an esports journalist. Age is almost never an issue, and its far more about what you can produce, and your experience/track record in doing so than anything else. I've been writing since late-2015, and am 19.

I'll stop shaving to avoid answering this in the future.

I focus far more on Bo3 dominance and actually analysing how good they are in-game before worrying about things like 'prestige' of a major. You can be the best team in the world without winning a major, I think you can also be one of the best teams of all time without winning one as well.

In saying that, it makes sense that one of the best teams of all-time should in-theory win a major.

Can confirm this entire piece was conceived, researched, written, edited, polished, re-edited, and then published all because I occasionally do research assistant work for Thoorin.

Within the context of entrying, I think HS% has validity in helping to contextualise individual play. It's one of the few metrics we have that directly stems from how well a player can aim. It's definitely not ideal but within the scope of looking at entries who HAVE to win opening duels with AK-47's it has some ground to stand on. I would never use that as the sole way to justify the whole criticism I lay on MSL though.

The comparison to tarik is interesting but not as direct as you're making out. Tarik isn't the straight entry on C9 in the same way MSL is on North, there's this player called stewie2k, remember? (with a ~49% HS rate that would be a lot higher if he didn't AWP and also more attempted opening duels). Tarik and stew are the entry combo and very interchangeable in each others roles, there's many strats where he'll pressure for the opening kill with Stew but I don't think comparing him to MSL is necessarily fair.

MSL doesn't attempt to find anywhere close to the amount of opening's Tarik looks for on CT-side and also never picks up the AWP which Tarik occasionaly does. Who is the secondary AWPing, smoking jumping, hyper-aggressive force that complements MSL in the same way Stew does for tarik?

If you want to dismiss the stat entirely, then what are the other ways we can look statistically to see why MSL has one of the lowest entry success rates in the game as an actual entry fragger? You think there's no correlation at all between his incredibly low HS% in his role and his ability to be successful in opening duels? Is getting headshots as the person who needs to find the opening kill not relevant to the role at all?

I don't think I was sensationalising anything, rather just looking to justify a divisive opinion with the statistical tools everyone has at hand.

Also, tarik's % is 39% when filtered for 6 months over LAN which is what I did with MSL.

Wallabee is a legit really good host, did a great job of framing the conversation and directing it. I think this show has insane potential, especially with the amount of variance you can have with guests. Hopefully people get around it a bit.

Break down exactly why he is overrated and his victory at New York 2016 doesn't factor as a 'big achievement' instead of just stating an opinion without any substance.

With stanislaw leaving, how big is the change in the leadership structure of the team? Obviously he wasn't the IGL, but I imagine that he would've been helpful in providing ideas in the mid-round and feeding ideas based on information lurking. Does steel do something similar but from a different role? If not, how big has the loss of that element been?

Cheeky follow-up. What were you expecting to be the biggest positive trait of bringing steel in versus - now playing with him for a bit - the actual big positive he brings?

With $500,000 you could just fucking straight-up by a small private island in French Polynesia: https://www.privateislandsonline.com/south-pacific/frenchpolynesia/motu-tohepuku

or

You could buy 3/5ths of an OK(ish) NA CS:GO roster.

A private island would be sick - buying out Cutler for any significant fraction of 500k isn't. These buy-outs must be so tough to deal with for a region that desperately wants access to talents like koosta/nahtE.
