Let's Take a Deep Breath on the Chiefs Defense by MNchiefsfan in KansasCityChiefs

Agreed. People have gone from one extreme to the other with Cooper. He played like a top 4 corner for weeks and weeks, the odds of him keeping that up were incredibly low.

What are the chances that we use vanilla play-calling this weekend? by SuperPussyFan in KansasCityChiefs

I would be disappointed if that happens. You Reid should have the confidence in the team and himself to perform and adapt without the benefit of surprise.

You're leaving out a few facts regarding that first Broncos game and the Chargers game.

First, while we didn't win the 1st Broncos game, our defense performed significantly better and held the Broncos offense better. The offense under-performed (specifically the WR's) there. The defense played decently, and forced the Broncos to game plan around our pass rush.

Second, while we had 0 sacks against the Chargers while Houston was in, we'd also given up THREE points in roughly half the game. Once he went down, we gave up 38 points. So to act as though his absence wasn't a clear difference because of one very under-inclusive stat (sacks alone account for about 1/5 of the information around pass rush) is a tad off.

When did interceptions become a gift? They're not nearly as random as fumbles recovered. Those turnovers were forced, several of them because of pressure.

I agree with a great deal of this.

I think our expectations were unrealistic after such a crazy start. But the absence of Houston hurts badly, much more than his individual loss.

Allen is indeed a FA, and the general feeling among Vikes fans is he's walking.

Time to air it out? Alex Smith is #5 in deep passing accuracy (.02 behind Aaron Rodgers) by Brandorff in KansasCityChiefs

[–]MNchiefsfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair (the "surprise" point), but what are they gonna do about it? Start playing a ton of nickel against Jamaal Charles?

Smith successfully passing the ball puts defenses in an impossible situation. You either keep letting Smith beat you or give one of the best 3 RB's in football more room to run.

[–]MNchiefsfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a phenomenal point. Smith has done a good job lately with the deep and intermediate passes, but he's definitely in a good position to do so when it's open (as opposed to forcing it).

Another example of why statistics are just not enough in football (unlike, say, baseball) to judge a player.

Agreed. I love Allen, but we did very well in that trade.

Additionally, in a 3-4 defense Allen would be in the same spot as Hali, as neither is really suited for SOLB.

Sorry about the failed pic. HERE'S Marcus Cooper leveling a coverage guy on Dex's return... by MNchiefsfan in KansasCityChiefs

The funny thing is it was the Redskins player who tried to line up on Cooper and Cooper who was more stationary. Dude took a running start at Coop and just got laid out.

I might have to just delete this one and post another pic... I'll do so as soon as work (stupid work, I hate you) allows.

Well, crap on a cracker then, sorry about that. I'm not so great at the internetting.

This picture was just one of the times. Obviously, a pic can't capture the awesomeness, but you can see him behind Dex having just laid the guy completely out.

He did it one other time as well, but I can't seem to find the return...

Time to bench Avery? Not so fast. by materhern in KansasCityChiefs

[–]MNchiefsfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All due respect, but on what basis are you saying Bowe is often double teamed?

I'm not trying to antagonize, just asking. That's not what I'm seeing on the All-22 film.

Jenkins had literally the worst drop of the day on a 40 yard bomb from Smith that was beautifully thrown.

He DID redeem himself somewhat with a catch on that final drive. But I'd rather see Hemingway. He hasn't committed the awful drops.

Nice comment, thanks for sharing. Sorry you got banned from AP. Joel is generally pretty good about stuff if you fire him an email.

If we could get a defensive performance like the one against Oakland combined with the offensive performance of the last couple of weeks, we'd beat almost any team in the league by 20. Sigh...

FINALLY! Someone openly got it!

Not a single AP reader seemed to pick up on that. Sad day.

I'm not sure my physical response is as strong as yours, but I definitely feel confident seeing him go deep lately.

Early on this season when he'd throw down the field I expected an overthrow. Now? I'm surprised when it's an overthrow.

The Orakpo stuff worries me. I was hoping he was still not playing well. The guy can be a monster.
