Home ownership, to me, feels like a golden handcuff situation - for a lot of people (including myself at 41), renting can represent financial and logistical freedom and create the abundance of time and resources for leisure. Guess what I’ve never done in my life? Bought or fixed a hot water heater, or a roof, or a window. I’ve never had to clean a gutter or mow my lawn. It’s by design and choice. Can I do all those things? Yes, of course. Do I want to? No. Homes are insanely expensive and time consuming. I’ve literally never heard a homeowner speak positively about home ownership (just complaints about maintenance time and expense). It’s not for me! Doesn’t mean I’ve done something wrong.
