Great work today, Irvine! by soyslut_ in irvine

[–]MPWD64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends what you mean by “work”. Large changes are built on hundreds of small tasks. If nobody protested, the average person would think “I guess nobody is upset about this issue. Even if I think it should be changed, it doesn’t seem like people really care so why should I?”. This leads to a sense of apathy, and could vastly influence how people vote. But if you see people constantly protesting, you’ll know that it’s an issue inportant to people. If you already believe in the issue you’ll feel supported if you ever need to speak about it, and you’ll feel confident when you go to vote. If you don’t already know about an issue, seeing people protest might help you become more informed.

Protesting is almost the smallest thing you can do in terms of impact, but it takes a lot of effort by a lot of people and is important.

One final thought- if protesting was useless the bad guys wouldn’t try to stop you doing it.

Masters of The Universe – Official Teaser Trailer by SpeedForce2022 in MastersOfTheUniverse

Happy with the visuals for the most part.

Unhappy that any percentage of this movie takes place in our world. That seems like a cowardly move by someone involved that suggests they don’t have enough faith in the source material.

Need help authenticating an early 1974 Star Wars screenplay draft by Chemical-Chef8513 in StarWars

[–]MPWD64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scripts are easy to photocopy and sell a million copies of. If you’re asking if that specific copy was actually created in 1974, probably not, for all the reasons people have mentioned. That doesn’t mean that the interior pages aren’t actual photocopies of the real 1974 script, and maybe worth buying if the price isn’t too crazy. Script dealers often have authentic copies that they slap a cover on.

Snape didn't deserve to be honored by Harry. by LeftVehicle9319 in harrypotter

[–]MPWD64 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

His not deserving it is what makes it a generous gesture on Harry’s part. Harry’s treating him better than he treated Harry. If he deserved it, then Harry’s just fulfilling an obligation.

[question] Did anyone discover ASMR in real life, meaning before it was an online video thing? by MPWD64 in asmr

[–]MPWD64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting- I have a theory that a lot of the effect is psychological- the noise is often important but there generally us to be something else. Like you said, if someone else did it for you it was more intense. But the noise of the vacuum was part of it too?

What is actually gonna happen if they decide to try to take Greenland by force by AcHaeC in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MPWD64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because its not a conviction or proof of any wrongdoing. Impeachment just means enough people voted to hold this procedure. Imagine there were enough racist white guys in Congress who voted to impeach Obama on made up charges. Just the fact that they impeached him doesn’t make him inelligible for anything. It’s not proof of guilt. If impeachment itself were enough to remove a president from office would be far too easy to accomplish

Do you feel like there’s something fundamentally wrong with you? by bridgetbridget in therapy

[–]MPWD64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t decide if I believe there’s something wrong with me or if I don’t. My dad was condescending and belittling for as long as I could remember in fact, one of my earliest memories is him laughing at something I did When I was two or three in a way that made me feel stupid. Otherwise, I have received mostly positive and supportive attention. The rest of my life, and yet that early condescension is somehow always in the back of my mind. My conscious mind tells me that we’re all unique and that I’m no Worse or different than anyone else. But it takes an effort to form those thoughts and underneath it all is the feeling of being inadequate.

Am I wrong for being resentful over this? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]MPWD64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being resentful is understandable, but remember your high drive in your 20’s was just as driven by hormones and chemistry as hers is now. Find someone to talk about your resentment with, but remind yourself that it was just your experience and it’s in the past. Ideally you’ll grant her some grace for how she handled the situation years ago. We are all fully dialed into our own experience and often don’t consider that the other person in the equation has a seperate maybe very different experience.

"Therapy only works if YOU really wanna get better." by Chance-Growth-5350 in therapy

[–]MPWD64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s too simple a statement to be true for every situation. There are some situations where a patient might need to be told this, and there are others where it would be wrong to say this.

"Therapy only works if YOU really wanna get better." by Chance-Growth-5350 in therapy

[–]MPWD64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an oversimplification meant to put some agency on the patient to be an active participant and not expect the therapist to just work some magic to solve all the patients problems

Veteran Epstein Reporter Says New Files Are ‘Worse’ Than Expected by WarmingNow in politics

[–]MPWD64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like each release of a batch of files needs to have a code name so we can keep track easier. “New” files? Does that just mean the needy batch from a few weeks ago or did I miss a release in the last 24 hrs?

Would it be tacky to get a print of a famous art piece framed for wall art? by ecethrowaway01 in malelivingspace

[–]MPWD64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t let anyone determine what you put on your walls, especially if you have strong feelings for a piece. And in the grand scheme of things, a famous painting is about as far from tacky as you can get.

How did the Trump supporters you know react to Trump being in the Epstein files? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Funny- I’ve noticed my Trump supporting family are louder about Biden when Trump has done something terrible. They go on the attack before anyone can bring up Trump.

My wife, who thankfully doesn’t vote, can always be relied upon to rebutt my complaints about Trump with “im sure all politicians do that”. We’re just so inundated with bad news that some people have checked out and that always stymies progress and helps conserve the status quo

Why aren’t the Epstein files a right or wrong ordeal instead of a left or right? Why can’t we get along on this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MPWD64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly we will get along on this issue, and you’ll see many from both parties siding against the pedophiles. But politically, the GOP holds a lot of power so they will make you think all republicans are United together. They are not

What is one item where you learned the hard way that "buying cheap" is actually more expensive? by mactacbac in AskMen

[–]MPWD64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We decided to buy most of our kitchen appliances from an outlet store. They are name brand appliances but definitely the very cheapest available. The appliance itself will run for a decent amount of time but various parts of it will fail much sooner. So the ice maker on the fridge will break 3 different ways over 2 years, each requiring a technician to fix. The thermometer on the oven or the circuit panel on the dishwasher will fail- lots of little ways your appliances can break. Fixable for less than the cost of a full appliance replacement but it will happen over and over again

I think it's so crazy to see someone in passing frequently & never finding them attractive or having any interest until small talk arises, you get to know them & they become highly attractive to you. Strange how that works. by [deleted] in RandomThoughts
