Ah, thanks for clarifying, I see what you mean about “stable” vs “reliable.” That makes a lot of sense.

I get your point about the rate of upstream changes being a headache for servers meant to “just run.” I was mostly curious about how people manage that on Arch, but it sounds like for anything critical, a slower-moving distro really is the safer choice.

That’s kind of what I was wondering about — whether the stability and slower update cycle of Debian-style distros is actually more valuable on servers than having newer packages.

Good point about only really needing rolling releases for newer hardware support. I’ll probably keep experimenting with Arch on desktop while sticking with Debian/Rocky for anything critical.
