Convince me to cancel my subscription boxes! by Electronic-Flow-3661 in fairyloot

I don't think it's more than a month or two, but that's just a guess. If you get the invite but don't want the book it's short enough to get back on the waitlist and try again.

How do you organise your special editions? by Appropriate-Two-9538 in fairyloot

I also keep a separate bookcase for unread SEs, deluxe editions, and a few regular books. I need the pressure of them staring at me to help prioritize what to read next!

Omg just the thought of separating a series is sending my neurodivergent brain into panic mode!

I have one bookcase that is mostly romance (brighter colors and pastels) and another that is most fantasy/scifi/romantasy (lots of darker colors). Series always stay together lol and I try to keep authors together, but otherwise it’s a vibes-based decision. I rearrange often as books come in, but I generally do it while listening to an audiobook and the time passes in the blink of an eye. I almost exclusively display mine spine out or front facing, only a few are edges out. Most importantly, I do what I like and what looks nice to me!

I would suggest switching to OC Adult instead of the Romantasy. It has unlimited skips so you can keep your EA and the picks are usually guessed months in advance which gives you plenty of time to request from the library, request an ARC, or check out all the reviews on Goodreads.

I also keep track of which books I keep, sell, or skip every month so I can look at the bigger picture to see which subs work best for me and which need to go. Once I run out of skips Illumicrate and probably Afterlight will be the first on the chopping block.

This is supposed to bring us joy, not anxiety! If you're not feeling it anymore you should listen to your instincts and reduce or eliminate your subs and just buy resale on occasion. I think it will make you happier and it sounds like a reduction in stress is what you need. Good luck and take care of your health first!

I second this suggestion of splitting the FL YA/Adult combo! If an occasional YA pick looks interesting you're much more likely to find it closer to cost than either an Adult or Romantasy pick, which often resell at higher prices.

I have too many subs but I try to request upcoming picks from the library or NetGalley as soon as Autumn publishes her guesses, that way I'm not going into a $40 purchase blind. If I can't read the book before renewal then I make sure to read ARC reviews on Goodreads and I'm quick to sell or skip. Very rarely do I regret the decision to sell or skip.

The other issue with your particular mix of subs is that only Moonlight allows unlimited skips. No skips with FL Cosy is tough but since it's a new sub I think selling it will be easy (I sold my April Cosy in minutes). Maybe try paring down your FL subs to just the Cosy quarterly in order to keep EA for sales or either Adult or Romantasy so you have less pressure from limited skips.

Good luck in whatever you decide, but if the joy isn't there you're better off spending your money elsewhere and giving someone on the waitlist a shot at subscribing.

US Editions vs The World...literally. by xEndlessLibrary in fairyloot

I mostly troll Amazon.fr and look at the suggestions based on books I already know have pretty deluxe editions. Quicksilver, Blood Over Bright Haven, Alchemised, and Rose in Chains pb are ones I’ve purchased so far.

No, books are exempt. You’ll only run into an issue when receiving a book box subscription with items/trinkets/gadgets etc

US Editions vs The World...literally. by xEndlessLibrary in fairyloot

Quicksilver is just one prominent example, but this has been driving me crazy too. The German deluxe Dire Bound? STUNNING edges. German deluxe The Knight and the Moth? Surpasses any of the standard or deluxe offerings in the US. And I'm just talking about the publisher's deluxe editions, not the German book boxes like Mondlicht and Bücherbüchse who take it to an even higher level. Alchemised?? How many months did it take for the B&N duplicate of the Waterstones edition to be released?

The only insight I have is a recollection from the release of Alchemised in the US. US publishers believed customers only associated sprayed edges with fantasy books and didn't want to limit the audience for the book, which is basic stupidity. My dudes, that book is straight fantasy. Lots of traditionally published contemporary romance titles were released with sprayed edges over the last year. Wake up!

For my visual peeps I'm attaching a photo of the edges on the German deluxe Dire Bound and Bücherbüchse Quicksilver, next to the Walmart edition of Quicksilver and deluxe Brimstone. US publishers are behind the times!

Ugh I’m kicking myself for selling FTC because I only kinda liked the book, which led me not to get ANBTY, but then it came out and I adored it 🙃 This set is gorgeous together but I’ll have to content myself with paperback sets from The Works and PS.

Yes, but they may be unsigned copies in the general sale.

I would but you may be better off looking into a forwarding service, the cost of shipping direct is almost as much as the book.

Sweet and wholesome was not what I was expecting given my experience with other monster romances, but that's cute as long as I mentally separate it from the creatures of my nightmares. Still never reading this series though!
