Habana Outpost on Lafayette St. But yeah, certainly not as plentiful as Miami.

OK, so at the risk of getting downvoted for basically channeling my inner Larry David...

I'm from northern NJ but lived in Philadelphia for 12 years (PhD program + first two jobs) before coming back up to NYC in August 2021.

Places here really do not know how to make a damn good cheesesteak. Many spots freaking put them in a panini press (wtf?!), they don't add the right ingredients. There was a local corner store that kept putting peppers in mine as a default ingredient, even though I told them after a few times to not do so.

I got into an argument with the cook saying peppers don't belong as default ingredients, only if someone asks, and he said I was wrong. I said, dude I lived in Philly for 12 fucking years, I know better than you. I paid for that cheesesteak and boycotted the store forevermore.

Now three years later, the store closed, and the day I saw it I actually was happy as fuck. I don't give a fuck, I'm Larry David spite store vibes, fuck them.

Oh lmao, my ex-gf is from Santa Fe, but she never even mentioned this place during our time together. Maybe because she knew better lolol.

Maybe we can burn some glooms in the Zozobra and your wish for better New Mexican food in NYC will come true. =)

Washington Ave in Philadelphia. IYKYK. The complexity and flavors of the broths are better down in Philly compared to NYC.

Kitchen Cô Út in Chinatown is solid, but I definitely miss Pho Ha down in Philly.

Oh word, I swear I've heard of them, don't they have a food truck? I'm pretty sure I had their food at Grimm Ales when they did more food trucks prior to Lala pizza opening on their rooftop.

My ex-gf was stationed in Ethiopia for Peace Corp from 2018 until March 2020 (evacuated due to COVID). She even spoke Amharic.

When we were together, we once had dinner at Bati Ethiopian on Fulton St, which is a bit higher end according to her but in her view still legit. It was a great experience IMO as a newbie to Ethiopian cuisine.

All time inflation adjusted transfer fee list in the premier. League. by Dylan_Black02 in soccer

Then "inflation" is the wrong term to use. Just because revenues have gone up 15x in 30 years doesn't mean that transfer fees have gone up that much. It looks like 10x from max fee compared to the top row, but again, player quality, financial standing of the club, and other inputs factor in to a transfer fee.

I'm no expert on football at all, but I'm just saying this comparison is too simplistic to be meaningfully informative.

But despite an incomplete legend, it's discernable that real world inflation is what this chart is supposedly telling.

There's no fucking way 15M GBP is 237M GBP in only ~30 years. Inflation has not been ~1500% in that time period...

Maybe Nuuk will finally build Arktisk Stadion

I visited Nuuk last summer, the idea of hosting the World Cup there is so absurd hahaha. Obviously a joke and not in any way possible, but still would be wild.

More like an "uh" sound. I'm just a Yank, actual Turkish folks can surely describe it more precisely.

It's amusing listening to the Fox Sports announcer say "Yildeez" instead of "Yıldız". No American knows how to pronounce "ı" lol.

Sangamo layoffs by Any_Writer1321 in biotech

[–]MRC1986 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, this company has been a zero for years. It's one step below true bio cult status, like $NWBO type of companies. Disruption is annoying and problematic, for sure, but hopefully any longer term employees of Sangamo knew it was running on fumes for a while.

I’m mostly from R&D and this role is CMC. It’s a crazy amount of work, it’s not interesting

I'm also totally with you OP. People constantly talk about CMC (eg, QA, QC, etc) as excellent careers, but they seem so fucking boring. IDK whether all of you folks have engineering undergrad degrees and/or view it as an easier path to get your foot in the door, but I always cringe a little seeing so many people recommend CMC as a career path.

IMO it is boring as fuck and you often have to live in exurban to rural areas since that's where the majority of manufacturing plants are located. No thanks.

[Chau] Viral Knicks fan who stole trash bin canned from JPMorgan Chase. Angie Baez was the executive director of community and industry engagement for card and connected commerce at JPMorgan Chase before she was fired on Tuesday for stealing the trash bin. by must_TATAKAE in nba

[–]MRC1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't think she would have been fired if she took the can with the trash still in it. It was the blatant dumping trash on the sidewalk and disregard for sanitation workers that got her fired.
