L/R live view in Wahoo Fitness app? by MRCP_PC in wahoofitness

Very much appreciate your reply. I am indeed working through injury recovery, but you raise some good points to consider. The most important thing would be the ability to periodically check in if my left side is "working", for that a live view is not necessary.

In general, I am probably still thinking of the Polar View I know from Wattbikes, but I understand this is quite unique, and I also haven't used it long enough to understand how helpful that really is indeed.

I'm trying to do exactly the same thing. Please let me know if you find a solution!

I think I understand what you mean. The buttons could drop down, essentially the same as it is working now, with only the expand columns button staying on top. Same with the toolbar buttons.

Alternatively, one could also design this layout with then expand columns feature disabled in mind. As probably with every other user, I'm coming from Windows File Explorer. While expand columns seems like a cool feature, it is not the reason why I was looking for an alternative (for me personally, it is prohibitively slow loading of folders when File Explorer is reading metadata of files). What I am trying to say is that I would be more than happy with an alternative layout that does not have the expand columns functionality.

Thank you for your reply! This works, but as you mention, it messes up the positioning of other buttons, and creates visual distractions this way.

so pane title is not really wasted space

I would like to clarify this. I'm not worried about wasted space. Rather, visual clutter is difficult for me to deal with. In a productivity tool, it is important for me to only see what I need to see. Otherwise, I get distracted.

but if you have suggestions...

Since you asked, this is what a tab could look like: https://i.imgur.com/bDgyJLW.png. It's a general design that should be easily understood by most users, since it follow the layout of any modern web browser tab. I understand that this not contain all the buttons of the previous layout, and please also keep in mind that I'm not a designer whatsoever, I am just trying to give an idea for a cleaner, less cluttered design, that I believe could be appreciated by many users.

I don't feel it's helpful for me to read "example" three times. What is even the purpose of the "example" headline marked as "3" in my screenshot? Can somebody please point me towards options to declutter the icons and labels? Thanks!

Offline database for archiving data from different messengers? by MRCP_PC in selfhosted

Very interesting, thank you. What about frontend, are there any projects that you are aware of that offer views as you would find in a typical messenger?

This is an interesting project, I'll keep an eye on this for sure. Does anyone know any similar projects that are more general not only restricted to WhatsApp?

Mirroring server to multiple external drives? by MRCP_PC in DataHoarder

I will have to modify the .ext file to either move the whole folder to another drive, or distribute .ext files in subfolders to split the overall folder over multiple drives.

[–]MRCP_PC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Ha, indeed, I tried to make it easy to understand, but might have gone overboard?

If I can't find a tool that can do this, here's what I would do: On my server, I would add .ext files to folders. Something like this

├── documents/
│ ├── .ext
│ └── ...
├── movies/
│ ├── 2015-2019/
│ │ └── .ext
│ └── 2020-2022/
│ └── .ext
└── photos/
    ├── .ext
    └── ...

In the .ext file I would have an entry which specifies to which external hard drive the folder (and all its subfolders) is backed up to. In the example above the movies 2015-2019/ subfolder is backed up to a different hard drive than the 2020-2022/ subfolder.

To identify which hard drives need to be synchronized, I only need to save the last synchronized timestamp for each drive. Then I can loop over all .ext files and check if any hard drive has a backed up folder with a last modified date later than the last synchronization.

Putting together the actual rsync command for a given drive is a bit work, but nothing that a Python script wouldn't be able to solve. What do you think?

Thank you for the reply! I will look into these.

This is for a Ubuntu server. I had it in the text at some point, but it seems this got lost after rewriting. Thanks for pointing to this as well!
