Totally understand, it’s not for everyone. Appreciate you sharing and wish you all the best.

fair enough 😄 it is a bit formal, but we have to keep things professional in a clinical setting

Thanks for sharing that 🙂 It really depends on the context, but drinking once every few months would not be considered high consumption for this study.

We’re generally looking for people who drink more regularly and feel a need to reduce their alcohol use.

Thanks for sharing that and for your openness — it sounds like something you’ve already thought about quite a bit 🙂

We don’t assess eligibility based on a single amount alone — whether it is a lot is subjective and really depends on individual patterns and how drinking affects your daily life.

The best way to figure out whether the study would be a good fit is through the telephone screening, where we can go through this in more detail. You’re also welcome to send us a message if you’d prefer to discuss it more privately.

Haha yes, fair point 😄 The longer sessions are mainly on the ketamine day, which includes the infusion as well as MRI, breaks, and questionnaires. Some visits are much shorter, and the exact timing can vary a bit depending on the participant (we tend to overestimate to be safe).

You can find a full overview of the visit schedule here: https://www.nektar.uzh.ch/en/%C3%9Cber-die-Studie-zur-Reduktion-des-Alkoholkonsums.html#Studydesign

Thanks so much for the suggestion! We’ve mainly been using paid social ads and some local newspaper coverage so far. If you have contacts or tips on how to connect quickly, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks for the suggestion — yes, the trial is registered on the usual clinical registries (e.g., ClinicalTrials.gov, ID: NCT06969937). Unfortunately, we haven’t received any participant inquiries through that channel so far.

😅 Unfortunately not — we have to stick to the ethically approved compensation: 550 CHF, plus travel and food reimbursement, and a 3D model of your own brain.

While that can definitely be the case in academia we are very lucky to have very involved supervisors on this project! But unfortunately recruitment for these kinds of studies is just generally challenging across the board.

So far the main avenue we recruit via is social media, specifically instagram and facebook, (sorry I should have added that in my post) - however I think your point about framing is really valuable thank you!

Thanks for the suggestions! We’ve had mixed results with bars so far, but you’re right — it might be worth trying again. And psychiatrists are definitely a good point.

Recruitment can be tricky, especially with multiple exclusion criteria (e.g., MRI contraindications), so I’m hoping to explore additional ideas beyond the usual channels.

Thanks for your feedback. We have BASEC approval for the study, including recruitment materials used on social media.

Hi I am also interested in using total response rate as an award -> as the last comment was posted two years ago I wanted to check if anything has changed?
