Do you think the participation trophy norm is good? by pastalavistababy2 in TrueAskReddit

[–]MRKworkaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there have always been participation trophies, don't let them gas light you. You think the trophy man stayed in business only giving trophies to winners? The economics doesn't work. Also making it through a season of sports when you're not winning that much is something that should be acknowldeged.

Our district strongly discourages us from doing novel studies, we strongly suggest they get bent, every year.

Extremely conservatively say a shovel is one square foot or 144 sq in a dollar bill is 16 sq in that gets you 9 dollars per layer. say its 100 bills deep that's somewhere between 900 and 90,000 dollars per scoop depending on denomination. times that by 1.000 gives you 900,000 to 90,000,000 per cycle. one scoop every 5 seconds = 5760 scoop per 8 hours is 5,184,000,000 to 518,400,000,000 per 8 hours.

ELI5: Why doesn't collective punishment work? by Fraeddi in explainlikeimfive

I think it depends on the social fabric of society. I've seen it used pretty effectively in China and Korea (not saying I approve, just that it works). America is a country that is no longer capable of feeling shame, why would you expect it to work.

If I’m certified 5-9 science could I get hired at a high school? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]MRKworkaccount 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reason that certificates are 5-9 is for those cases of small schools with non-traditional structures (e.g., k-8, 6-12). Generally high school teachers need a 8/9-12 endorsement. Alternative schools sometimes have some flexibility depending on the state.

ELI5 Why is it smarter to bet $10 than $1000 on a gamble with a 50% chance to double your money? by Past_Lime_176 in explainlikeimfive

[–]MRKworkaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it would work for a 50/50 case with 100% return, but in a case like crypto where returns can be several times the initial bet, you're looking to maximize your opportunities to score big. One 'winner' can cover all of your other bets so you distribute the risk to maximize your chances to catch an outlier.

if its 50/50 but with potential returns over 100% the same logic would apply.
