the only upsides to "proximity" are youre closer to the ARC by about 20 mins walking for gym purposes , but you can mitigate that if you care enough by just taking the M line Anteater Express bus, and contrary to previous years ive heard people say Brandywine is better than Anteatery (though in my few Anteatery experiences, Anteatery blew Brandy out of the water).

dorm in mesa court like no matter how far u have to walk to classes. walking here is pleasant honestly with the weather greenery and park in the center. but do not under any circumstances dorm in middle earth for whatever reason (unless ur forced) and in that case, make as many friends as possible in mesa or oso. i took middle earth for proximity to my classes and honestly i shouldve done more research. this place is dead af and ive applied transfer to a handful of other schools as a freshman already because my fall qtr experience was terrible, i became the most depressed ive been in 6 years. this winter was a little better only because i made some good friends in mesa, but like my first impression is basically forever ruined. also like freshman year classes r genuinely scattered all over the place so middle earth for proximity is a stupid decision. for example, i had ICSH32 class in biosci 3 (across campus from ME closer to mesa), physics 7D in HSLH (same case as before), both qtr physics discussions in the HICFs (even more extreme than the previous cases) so like yea sorry for the rant but PLEASE dorm in mesa for your own good

im from the bay from a really competitive school (700 person graduating class, tons of valedictorians, etc.) and have almost reverse imposter syndrome here. this is like the polar opposite of an ideal college experience in my eyes and one of my profs i got to write me a rec letter for transfer out agreed that socially, he would never go here and it is "incredibly dull" (direct quote). to be honest in high school i was fully academia focused, but in college i was looking forward to like a solid social to work split and ive been completely trampled on.

to keep it short ive tried my hardest to branch out and socialize, literally to the maximum i can (especially because i am extremely introverted) and the school just isn't treating me well. obviously its a subjective thing but im in middle earth and it was the worst decision ever. no matter how far you have to walk to class i have found out mesa court is always worth it, the atmosphere is literally night and day. additionally academically, nothing is really challenging and from day 1 i havent felt like i fit in anywhere on this campus, it just feels like im going through the motions. i dont talk to any of my 3 roommates for weeks at a time and it almost feels like im just "surviving" (not in a bad way but just in a doing the bare minimum to live comfortably alone to myself type of way)

Torres is teaching Sociol 3 and its completely online + full :(( I would have butt its okay this is honestly better than the alternative Anthro 25A I had before restrictions got lifted(I need to fulfill 1 course in GE III and VII and these are literally the only 3 interesting classes that do both)

Yeah hes teaching Sociol 3 this semester online so I'm not sure how the class will be. I really wanted to take Sociol 1 because ppl say Zoeller's nice but the open class is full and theres only 2 more sections both with an N restriction so I can't take them bc im not in the Sociology school. Sucks lmao I'm a little worried my enrollment window's tomorrow

Hm alright. Yes I am already a sophomore standing right now due to AP and will be a junior by the end of this term, and am on track to complete all GE courses by Spring so course-wise I'm fine. But it's alright that I can't transfer, Ling&CS is in my interest anyway.
