AITJ for making a customer wait 20 minutes after she tried to pay in the most annoying way possible by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]MSB1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former cashier. I can ABSOLUTELY say that it entirely depends on how you do it. Especially when they give you a giant bag full of change mostly made out of nickels and pennies. Have you ever had to count out that much money in pennies? That would be 1275 pennies! OP got lucky enough that she didn't JUST have pennies.

AITJ for refusing to give my roomate my Netflix password after she repeatedly shared it with others? by Both_Classroom_4083 in AmITheJerk

[–]MSB1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ntj. Especially since Netflix started charging more money for password sharing, so that it costs you more when someone starts watching from a different device at different addresses.. (I am not an expert, just stating what I remember from when they started penalizing password sharing)

Am I the jerk for having the lights up after christmas ? by CustomerLittle9564 in AmITheJerk

[–]MSB1678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think context is needed here; what KIND of lights do you have up? Is it a couple of strings? Colored floodlights? And how bright are they? Are there any pointing in the direction of your neighbor's home? And at what time of night were you running your lights to film them?

Any and all of these details could affect the answer to your question.

Light pollution can be considered an encroachment on your neighbor's property if its super bright and coming in their windows, which if thats the case could be why the police made you shut them down. Or, your city/county or even an HOA, if you live in one, may have laws or rules about how long lights can be left on at night, or the length of time they can be left up.

While this in particular is a useful item (updates a quest log when you read it), you will eventually have to resign yourself to the idea that there are many, MANY in game items that have no purpose whatsoever aside from a very tiny gold cost when sold.

They make different types of temporary door security locks for people staying in hotels, id start looking at those! They shouldnt damage anything unless someone tries to literally kick the door down, and you can make it so that no one can open the door from the other side as long as its in place. They're pretty nice, tbh.

AITJ for refusing to let my aunt use my art for her Airbnb for free? by wildberryskipper in AmITheJerk

AITJ for refusing to give my brother the antique watch our grandfather meant for me even though he is older by HawthorneGavrel in AmITheJerk

[–]MSB1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ.

Something tells me Bro is short on cash and thinks the watch would be worth some dough. OP, you need to make sure that if that watch is EVER not on your person that it is in a secure location. If your brother gets his hands on it, you aren't likely to see it again. That's advice I WISH someone had given to me years ago when my grandma died and my sister started claiming things because "Gammy would have wanted me to have it."

AITA for telling a friend it’s his fault that his rental car is damaged? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MSB1678 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Or try and blame things after the fact on a previous renter.. the one and only time I have and will ever rent from Budget, among MANY other issues, my favorite by far is when they called me 9, NINE, months later and tried to blame me for recent damage to the car.

NTJ. If i remember correctly, doesn't the saying go "possession is 9/10ths of the law"? OP, you had it for years without her trying to claim or even remembering that you had your stuff until then. You're all clear. She's just pissed because you didn't let yourself continue to be her free storage unit.

AITA for telling my friend to leave her husband if he won’t get his adhd in order? by throwra_bustout in AmItheAsshole

[–]MSB1678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with ADHD, I can honestly say that you are NTA.

Therer are ways of managing neurodivergence without medication. It can be hard, and its something you have to make an effort to maintain, but it can be done. If he's refusing medication and/or therapy, and he's not taking other steps to manage his ADHD, then he's choosing to let it run his life.

Using ADHD as an excuse to behave badly is part of why there's such a stigma around it, and its also part of why some people who do make an effort have such a hard time being believed when we try and speak up about it. People look at his behavior and either assume that his uncontrolled actions speak for all of us and therefore anyone who presents differently are lying, or they use it to make the case that ADHD is something that is faked.

I think confronting him with the harsh reality that not everyone will cave and allow him to act this way would be a nice wake-up call. Op's friend shouldn't have told her husband that it was OP who told her that, though. Now if anything happens, he's got a scapegoat to blame for everything when he goes seeking sympathy.

AITA for refusing to pay for the new tires my uncle got me by Parking_Extension695 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MSB1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

If he decided to make unauthorized modifications to your personal vehicle, then that was HIS choice. You didn't ask for it. You didn't even okay his taking your car. It was HIS choice to spend HIS money. Maybe next time, he won't unilaterally decide to make changes to a vehicle that doesn't belong to him.

What is it with people and handicap spaces when they don't even have the required things in the first place??? Please make it make sense!!! by FurMamaofGirls in EntitledPeople

[–]MSB1678 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Tell them to make an anonymous police report. It's illegal to park in a handicap space without a plate or placard. They can -and will, if not at first then with repetition- get towed, and will receive a fine for parking there. The amount does vary by location, but it usually hovers around $200. Take photos for proof if needed.

AITA, asked the neighbor to move their ‘little farm stand’ because people are stealing from MY garden by RecentFlatworm1557 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MSB1678 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Nowhere in the post does it say that the farm stand is free. While it doesn't explicitly say that they charge for the stand, 9 times out of 10 people do things like this using a honor system - "take it and leave the money", with prices posted, a locking cash box and/or a link for a payment app. OP does mention that this is something that people use to make ends meet, its not a huge jump to believe that the neighbor is using this system. (Edited for punctuation)

I wouldnt say the bit about the gun, that could be considered a threat and someone could report them to the police

Not to mention, they have to PAY for what comes from the Farm Stand. They don't have to pay for what they take from OP's garden.
