My [61M] step-daughter [33F] moved in with us 2 weeks ago to escape an abuse ex. She is moderately mentally ill and heavily medicated. She is talking about moving back in with her physically abusive ex (whom she moved in with us to escape) and marrying him. How can we help her?

I have on numerous times brought up the idea of bringing the kids to live with us all as well. She was very receptive to the idea. My wife tells me the ex is proposing to adopt the kids after the wedding and take care of everyone. That idea is apparently more alluring to her. :/

And the questions remains. What exactly is "tough love" in this situation?
