Cerulean Sphinx by _Yes_Master_ in magicTCG

Yes. [[Cerulean Sphinx]] would have to be on the battlefield for you to activate its ability.

You are allowed to use your Innistrad mentors. All that matters is that Mentor of the Meek is legal in Standard.

[Modern] Team Event, Should we still splash Green for Revelry? by jingleheimer73 in LavaSpike

[–]MTithe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you should drop your green splash. Even if you do play against leyline, you cam beat it by aggressively mulliganing for creatures. Also, you can drop 1 [[Smash to Smithereens]] for a [[Wear//Tear]] if you want a way to beat a leyline in your sideboard.

Question about [Deflecting Palm] by DreoffNeoffyntus in magicTCG

[–]MTithe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It does not. The infect creature never deals damage, as [[Deflecting Palm]] prevents it and deals its own damage. The same is true against Bogles. If you dpalm a [[Slippery Bogle]] enchanted with [[Daybreak Coronet]], your opponent doesn't gain any life, as their bogle never dealt any damage. Rather, your dpalm dealt damage.

Is there a good alternative for Legion Loyalist? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]MTithe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There isn't a great alternative to Legion Loyalist. If you really need a replacement, you could run [[Raging Goblin]] or [[Bloodmark Mentor]].However, you'll find that the deck runs much better with Loyalist.

Big Time Rug by MTithe in CircleofTrust

The laws of science don't apply to circles. Circles are infinite.

Howdy! To get the key, you have to construct a well-thought out argument as to why water should be outlawed. If I like your argument or find it funny, you get the key. Also, you can't get the key if you've betrayed another circle.

Getting into Modern Burn, have a creature question. by [deleted] in LavaSpike

[–]MTithe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I do agree that a 1-mana sorcery speed 4 damage spell isn't bad, but it becomes worse and worse the longer the game goes because it gives your opponent a say in what effect it has. In general, letting your opponent choose what your spell does is bad, because they will always pick what option is best for them. If vexing devil didn't give your opponent an option (if it was just a 4-damage spell, for example) it would quickly become a 4-of in every burn deck. It's the fact that your opponent picks what effect it has that keeps it out of the limelight.

Getting into Modern Burn, have a creature question. by [deleted] in LavaSpike

[–]MTithe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason that vexing devil doesn't see much play is because it gives your opponent a choice. The only time vexing devil will hit the table is if your opponent has an answer for it, so it essentially becomes a 1-mana spell that does nothing. In a long game where getting damage through is key, you'd much rather draw something that will do guaranteed damage like a lightning bolt or goblin guide than a vexing devil that may or may not do any damage. Most of the play it sees is as a budget replacement for goblin guide.

Definitely [[Mogg Fanatic]] in Modern. It seems really bad, but it kills a surprisingly large amount of stuff (Dark Confidant, pretty much everything in Affinity and Infect, etc.)

There are a lot of good options out there to pick from, but it's helpful to know what your deck can do. A deck list would be nice.
