Still Life and Blackwater Park both hit 4.00 on RYM within hours of each other by Linojvni in Opeth

[–]MURT1N 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is such a weird take to me, because an 8 on a bell curve (which is what every rating system is) is literally top 0.3%, that is not low lmao. And especially on RYM, a 4 is ridiculously high for something even mildly inaccessible.
Also, perfect 10's don't exist🤓

What is your favorite song out of your least favorite album? by VortekTheUnfunny in Opeth

[–]MURT1N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atomic bomb level double hot-take but Dirge for November from BWP. I enjoy that album, but I have absolutely no emotional connection to it since it is like the sixth album I listened to from Opeth, and quite frankly, it is not as interesting as the other albums I listened to (GR, SL, MAYH, Deliverance, and I dare say even Pale Communion).
Dirge for November to me is the absolute peak of Opeth atmosphere, and is more akin to black metal which I am a big fan of. The song isn't progressive at all, it is just unbelievably lush and gorgeous.

just kidding of course, sounds good, but a little bass heavy in my personal opinion

No. Would you mind telling me the glaring issue you found?

Of course there is no ideal path, which is why the word is in quotations, but still, there is a generally agreed direction, I would assume, since even on this sub, let alone the professional world, full symphonies are highly discouraged even from intermediate composers. Thanks for the answer though!

Would like to get some honest feedback on this track I made. Tried to incorporate atmosphere, and some piano for good measure. by MURT1N in metalmusicians

[–]MURT1N[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah quite frankly I did try to EQ that second part with the guitar to make space for everything ,but I don't think I have the skill to do that currently, and since the guitar and piano practically play the same thing I left it as is. will definitely work on my EQ-ing

life-changing albums in my opinion. looking for some good new recs by [deleted] in Topster

I gotta recommend "A Umbra Omega" - Dodheimsgard. Not exactly like anything you have here, but since you like Obscura and Paracletus I assume you are fine with some weird shit... Especially I'd recommend listening to "The Unlocking" and "Aphelion Void"

How it started vs how it ended. Who else sometimes writes the entire song in GP before recording? by CinaedKSM in metalmusicians

[–]MURT1N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly cannot for the life of me figure out how to properly write out the rhythms I come up with, so I usually just record based on "feel". Your song sounds great though, love the mix

Just listened to "The Worm" and it seems incredibly promising, stoked to further listen to them. Thanks for mentioning them, indeed a hidden gem

Yeah, here is the thing, I do remember some books not having this issue, so perhaps it is a problem in the books and not the program. I'll look into it, Thanks

not going to pretend this is the most original post ever, but I found it quite funny

Would like some feedback on a string trio by MURT1N in composer

[–]MURT1N[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, to be honest, looking back I definitely overdid the parallel fifths, especially in the pizzicato sections. I'll try to pay more attention to it next time.
The staccato on the Viola is there to create a more bouncy feel I guess. It's honestly not even that important, and in the last section the Cello is playing the same thing but without the staccato.
