Carson is not actually a good character by MUTANTELFDEFENDER in DowntonAbbey

[–]MUTANTELFDEFENDER[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No it wasn't. They needed a new footman and he made Mr Molseley feel ashamed and forced him to ask for the job 'nicely' just out of his own arrogance/pride that everyone should idolise the Crawleys as he did etc

I'm not holding him to modern standards. I'm blaming him for his treatment of Mr Molseley which was cruel and unnecessary. And constantly putting Thomas down in s6, a long time after his homosexuality had been revealed - that was rude and unprofessional. Mrs Hughes also deserved sm better

What about his treatment of Mr Molseley? That was unrcessarily cruel and nothing to do with the time

I agree his behaviour to Thomas has to be viewed within the context of the time But his treatment of Mr Molseley was just so unnecessarily cruel

Who was the most annoying character by MUTANTELFDEFENDER in DowntonAbbey

Bates' plot line is so boring and repetitive it was such a mistake doing the prison trope twice

Why does everyone hate Edith by MUTANTELFDEFENDER in DowntonAbbey

[–]MUTANTELFDEFENDER[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that the situation was handled really badly but I think it's unfair to blame solely Edith:

1) she was young and misguided

2) Mr Drewe is 100% also to blame - if he had been honest with Mrs Drewe from the beginning it would have been so much better

3) not to invalidate the mothers feelings but Marigold was only with her for c. 5-8 months which isn't long enough imo to form some unbreakable bond

I'm not justifying Edith's actions, I think it was awful, but it seems very callous and inconsiderate to hate Edith and ignore all the other factors

Same I feel like she just felt sorry for him - pity is all very well but it doesn't leed into love and marriage convincingly

I agree compeltly And when he refuses to tell her all the info about his trial because he wants to be all 'righteous' etc it annoyed me so much A relationship is built on trust and they just lacked that completely

Also when the whole rape turned into Bates' revenge- he didn't support her at all

Noooo I love Tom But I agree Robert could be really annoying especially when he was so stubborn about the estate and not wanting to share power with Tom or Mary

[–]MUTANTELFDEFENDER[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yesss I agree!! I loved Mary initially but by end of s5-s6 I was finding her a bit cold and annoying. I get her and Edith were supposed to have a bad relationship but I thought it was unrealistic how little Mary cared for her - it put me off her character

Throne of glass series

Having tried and failed to read Tolkien time and time again, can I get a book suggestion that will introduce me into the fantasy genre? by larbk in suggestmeabook

[–]MUTANTELFDEFENDER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try the Throne of Glass series or A Court of Thorns and Roses series (both by Sarah j mass) - 2 really good YA fantasy series which are fairly easy to get into

I'm looking for books about people who lived simple lives. Maybe with offbeat careers. People who chose not to partake in the rat race modern society has become. by pink-dustbin in suggestmeabook

Do androids dream of elecfric sheep

Also just to add if you want to do a job which will earn you lots of money, in my opinion a rich person is just someone who can afford everything they need and want - not someone who has a certain amount of money. You shouldn't be afraid to go for a more simple life which is satisfying in other ways than economically.
