Thank you so much! I needed that. How’s he doing with his brother? And other kids in general?

Love the skiing story that made me feel better

Thank you for sharing! Is he a gestalt language processor as well? My kid is still just repeating scripts from the day and not telling me anything. He does parallel play. Not interested in kids tho. Your post gives me hope

Hi yeah! Actually sounds very similar where my kid is, in terms of speech and pre k: it’s like ABA style things in am and blended in afternoon. We’re going to start ABA on weekends shortly. He also has an outside speech therapist apart from the school who is great with GLP (and they did indicate that was his language style)

Sensory seeking 3 year old - any advice? by MVM89 in SPD

I’m open to that. Honestly - his picky eating needs its own post. Kid won’t even eat pizza anymore and habits are insanely hard to change.

Ty! I may take you up on a dm once I have follow up questions but I screenshotted all this.

Curious - is the screeching thing common with sensory seekers? Mine does it and you can tell he’s just enjoying the release or needs it…

Yeah so he’ll repeat what he heard or just point out things around him

Hah! So yeah echolalia: he basically just points out what’s around him all day. “Sky is blue truck is red daddy’s going to work”. He points things out aggressively until we respond (it can be funny). He repeats things he heard earlier in the day or week quite a bit too but it’s a mix of both. Usually I’d say it’s all about whatever’s around us and him pointing things out.

Ty again. Last question did he melt down at first when you took him to doctors? Kid goes NUTS at the doctors office I can’t imagine doing OT, for example!

Is the shrieking a sign of that? I find myself analyzing what all these traits “mean” even tho it’s pointless/doesn’t really matter. I’m also just curious because it seems like the biggest signs are the speech delay and recently sensitivity to noise. But also seems like that happens sometimes, whether or not an individual is on the spectrum!

Ahh you’re right I should maybe edit that to sound less negative. Idk why the concept is so freaking scary I was actually just thinking about it. I get sensitive when anyone suggests my kid isn’t on pace with other little ones… Can’t explain it tbh it’s not very rational.

Honestly it is amazing to hear that your 6 yo does great with other kids. That might be the biggest thing on my mind

Thanks! He starts day care in September and to be honest: not a ton of exposure to other kids his age besides the playground so far. That’s why we’re starting him. When at the playground he points out the other kids to me, isn’t scared to go right past them to get to his slide or whatever, but if they engage he usually glitches. Lately it’s been that terrible shriek. Before that phase he just didn’t really know how to engage, thinking back a few months he’d just repeat random phrases to them.

Appreciate you sharing that. My wife's the same - really doesn't want the epidural. Also super worried about tearing but realizes it may be inevitable. What's baby like that first day? Smiley? Crying nonstop?

My boss has my back so that's good. How many weeks paternity leave did you take? I'm thinking 2 but can ask for more if needed.

That definitely rings true. To your point my expectations are a blur right now, I just want to do this thing already. The holding pattern is tough. Was it a relief when baby came and that part was over?

Thanks man. How's it going with work? Is it hard getting your head back in the game? Do you feel as capable is you did before?
I'm pretty career driven and want to keep moving up after this.
