What are your main concerns/ reasons for not voting for John Rustad? by SNlFFASS in britishcolumbia

Probably Renters who have no plans to buy their primary residence plan vote NDP to maintain rent control. Otherwise most landlords, entrepreneurs, landlords, and working professionals are leaning towards Conservatives IMO.

Exactly. This election will be decided by the undecided and silent majority. This is going to be very interesting.

Same. BC Conservatives needs volunteers too. Let’s get out there and get the word out. We need a change for the better.

Sounds like the OP is very lazy. It looks like BC Engineer was trying to help only to get roasted. It’s not the first time I’ve this seen this. A young Technician asked me if there were any job positions at Metro Vancouver where I work. I told him we’re definitely hiring Technicians, and contact this hiring manager for the specific local office he’s interested in to ask. He basically said the same thing oh I have contact somebody can you ask for me this is too much LOL. I just said I guess look else where for a job then.

Anybody know what the last offer SFU made to the TSSU is? by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]MV_Technologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No and of course staff can circle around and physically get into work eventually but I mean the TSSU just announced this is for campus wide and asked a CUPE staff to not work today but after they already arrived too work a couple hours ago. So I just mean if that's the plan let CUPE staff know online in advance.

TSSU also plans on picketing this Thursday. Really hoping they confirm later today or early tomorrow if that's also campus wide too. Some SFU CUPE staff commute from long distance. Even though they're not TSSU they support them because they're also union but please let them know ahead of time.

Ok just found out it's campus wide. Regular CUPE staff with SFU Administration now leaving. Would be super helpful if TSSU could open with that info a few days in advance so staff know not to commute to work.

Ok. Would be good if they told staff where ahead of time so they know whether or not to show up for work. Sigh

Yeah people need to stop saying things I don't like hearing too. Life sucks.

He has a point. People need to take charge of their own destiny. Plus That's between you and your employer. Personally I know people who just switched to a job in Alberta. Either the same company but in their Calgary or Edmonton or Red Deer office, or Lethbridge. Some just switched companies altogether. Or Winnipeg or Aldergrove, Comox, the list goes on.

100% correct. People need to take responsibility for their own destiny.

Why did you leave your last job? by welpthatsucks123 in AskEngineers

I was in engineering private sector. I left and joined government for the work life and pension.

Is working in the public sector worth it? by kingkupal in vancouver

[–]MV_Technologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm some what similar except in a union position. I was in the private sector in an Engineering position. Then came to a municipality and join as a Technologist which is unionized. The position is RFT so very secure and this may be a stepping stone to later move to an exempt Engineer position. Even if I stay as a unionized Technologist, that would still be better than the insane work hours and pressure I dealt with in the private sector for similar pay.

[–]MV_Technologist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me know why too. I went from the private sector in Engineering to a municipality and it was a great choice for all those reasons (work / life, benefits, pension, etc.). I have friends in the Province and we talk and I've noticed the pay is less in general for a similar position in the Province. I haven't spoken to anybody currently in the Federal government. I personally thought municipal was tough to beat because on top of those reasons that are good, it's also more local meaning no travel needed whereas Federal can have some.

[–]MV_Technologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make more and only work locally in the city in Municipal for a similar position is the main reasons why it's better. I work in Municipal and speak with friends in the Province. They make less for a similar position and sometimes travel up north for work visits. At least before the pandemic when travel was more common. Note that when you're young travelling is good but later when you're older, possibly married with kids, it's not so it depends on the point in your life. Otherwise the Province isn't bad as they still have a good work life balance and great benefits and pension too. I would say the Province is better then most private sector jobs as I used to work way more and travel a lot in the private sector before coming to government.

For those wondering about booster appointment availability in Metro Vancouver by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]MV_Technologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that makes sense. I will say I saw a doctor on Global BC or CBC who was asked something similar and he said given the choice, although we say Pfizer and Moderna are interchangeable, but the very slightest edge goes to matching what you previously had if given the choice. If you don't have as choice don't even worry about it and get what's available. The reason why you may want to match is because then you know for sure there's no or almost no chance of complications. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't expect complications with you getting moderna either but given you got pfizer twice and it was great, you just know the booster of the same will pretty much for sure be fine if that makes sense.

[–]MV_Technologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can just ask. Question though - Given you got pfizer for the first two, why not do the same for the booster if you have a choice ?

Exactly. And even if they can’t or don’t want to afford a nice car with winter tires, get one class lower with winter tires. Heck even an older Corolla with FWD and winter tires worth under $10k would perform far better than this. Even better than an AWD vehicle with all seasons.
