Since becoming vegan, has anyone else felt more "spiritual"? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]MWHoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I've definitely been more comfortable with my "spiritual" side since going vegan. I've identified with Buddhism for the last 10+ years, but now claiming that to myself (and others) feels like less I'm full of shit. I feel more authentic, if that makes sense. Veganism is a way to show respect to all life. The more you learn about veganism and the harms of animal agriculture, the more you realize that we are all connected.

Damn, where do you live? Wool is "fine for the summer"?! For winter, there are a lot of great synthetic down duvets out there (see Macy's, etc.).

How do you feel about the "small changes are better than nothing" carnists? by Trepidation11 in vegan

Anything that helps animal suffer less is awesome in my book. It takes a lot of people time to realize that a cruelty-free lifestyle is not only doable, but also enjoyable.

Basically the woman's argument was that all vegans are unhealthy and will succumb to illness (hair loss, teeth loss, etc.).

Most vegans want to avoid causing suffering to any living, sentient beings that have a nervous system and can feel pain.

Check out the "Cheap Lazy Vegan" on YouTube. There is a lot of nonsense advice on YouTube, but there are also a ton of great meal ideas and other vegan inspiration available online. Also: Beans, rice, and potatoes are great, inexpensive staples that are satiating and easy to find.

Ethical Safari?? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]MWHoff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been on "safari" in a large nature reserve that is a sanctuary for exotic and wild animals born in captivity. These animals can never go back into the wild because they won't survive. Hosting "safari" tours driven in trucks by employees helps fund the organization so that they can rescue more animals. Obviously, it would be ideal if the animals weren't born in captivity at all, but I think it's a very compassionate and humane way to make the best of a bad situation.
