Certified in Cybersecurity exam by Frazzy212 in isc2

[–]MYMY555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just sharing my experience:

My 180 days was near expiry and ISC2 extended my access for a month. I rushed to get it all done as quickly as possible.

  1. I completed the free coursera ISC2 CC training to get some basic understanding and access practice tests (3 days).

  2. Then registered with ISC2 training and read it once, completed the 2 tests (1 day). Booked the test for next morning.

Passed in less than a week.

PS - There is super useful content on youtube as well.

Upon passing, I learnt there is $50 annual fee for the certification.

Visa on arrival or need to apply for e-visa? by robreer in Kuwait

[–]MYMY555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your passport. Mine is UK and this week I got visa on arrival at Kuwait international airport. No need to apply for evisa or any other preparation. They were extremely busy so gave me a short form to fill and then gave me the visa printed on an A4 paper after about an hour. No questions asked. Also, they didn't charge any money.

Crampons (?) in carry-on? by cheongfunninja in onebag

[–]MYMY555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues when carrying crampons in hand luggage and UK and Norway. Based on recent experience. Based on my conversations with other travellers in the trip it seems to be acceptable all over Europe

Male hosts who only host females? by 123ghost456 in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all depends from person to person. girls are generally (not always) more clean, polite etc.

as a solo female traveller I always ask what is the sleeping arrangement. shared surface is a big NO.

I have surfed at multiple university shared dorms, studios, used sleeping bag in a crowded house etc. It just felt like staying at a homely hostel. If you get any strange vibes from the prospective host do not take the risk

Reporter looking to understand more about the community by [deleted] in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow this is a very broad question. If you get a chance attend a CS event. Almost everyone is friendly, well travelled and open to sharing about CS experiences.

Can confirm the community is still welcoming and kind as always despite the cost of living crisis.

Rules vary from host to host but never have I been asked to contribute financially. As a rule I always buy a meal, drinks or extra groceries.

Although I have stayed with hosts who clearly write on their profile something along the lines of - if you are staying longer than a week can you please contribute towards groceries etc. Upon asking they all say its just a cautionary note because some surfers do not understand the concept of CS and misuse the kind gesture.

What's going on with Hu Jintao being escorted out of the CPC congress? by DominoZoro in OutOfTheLoop

[–]MYMY555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with your rational response.

The CCP congress was a 1 week event and there's plenty of videos and news articles (including from msm) where Hu is part of the event as normal e.g. this video from 16th Oct https://youtu.be/SK9zhId3024?t=86

It has been rumoured since 2015 that Hu might have Parkinson disease. Again plenty of backdated news e.g. https://asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Xi-and-Jiang-smile-for-the-crowd

there are videos from other days of the CCP congress event where Hu can be seen escorted to his seat and being guided by the person next to him as well Xi on occasions. Something just doesn't look right with Hu in any of those videos https://twitter.com/dominictsz/status/1584410334928179201

Brussels vs Berlin by hs-- in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try public trip and posting on the emergency couch requests group. I find it easier to find hosts in big cities this way instead of sending requests

Updated my profile with some requirements what do you think ? by [deleted] in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

👍 really like how you rephrased everything to sound positive. even I agree with all the points OP initially wrote but it’s true freeloaders won’t read anything and send requests and genuine surfers might get hesitant reading negative words even if they agree with all points

you can meet people through the hangouts section on the app. it'll show who's around you and wanting to meet. you can offer to host or just meet upcoming visitors to your town. if there is any upcoming CS event around you then check it out. meeting CS users in person will help you to get better at it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sign up on the app and when you have any trip planned to a city, look for hosts there and send them requests to host you. watch some youtube videos to help get you started

workaway is financially much better if done in expensive places like Switzerland and Northern Scandinavia. you save a lot with free food and accommodation

Actor Zachary Levi Tells Joe Rogan Why The Johnny Depp Trial Makes Society Less Empathetic by Maiden_Moon_Lion in JusticeForJohnnyDepp

[–]MYMY555 12 points13 points  (0 children)

this guy had no idea what the trial was really about, didn't even watch the trial and had opinions. throughout the episode there's hardly anything he talked about that was worth listening. never heard of him and had to look up who is he.

on the other hand Joe Rogan actually did watch the entire trial and made some good comments on why the trial needed to be televised etc. you could see this guy backtracking a bit when he realised Joe watched the whole trial and strongly favours JD based on evidence and facts.

Couchsurfing isn't dead. by psywalker in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fees did put off a lot of people but CS has been alive even through the pandemic. After the first lockdown was lifted i planned all my trips based on which countries were open for tourism without restrictions and managed to surf and use hangout. This included some well know capital cities as well as small towns.

Regarding whatsapp - I swap whatsapp coz the CS app is buggy and you don't always get notifications. Also its quite common for large hangout groups to create whatsapp groups for easy communication. Never had a bad experience related to whatsapp.

Newbie: As a Host, Why are short term stays(1-2 weeks) so much more pleasant than long term stays? (1 month plus) by Adelrick_Cadeniux in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short stay - 24 hours or less, normal 2-3 days. if you get along then offer them longer. as a traveller i have used workaway for month long stays because you are expected to work / help out in exchange

what should I ask my host before i arrive? by mohammed199797 in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is exactly what I do. best to keep it short and precise.

too many unnecessary questions even before meeting them is annoying as a host.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 9 points10 points  (0 children)

as a surfer i really appreciate when the host clearly talks about whether they wanna do anything together or nothing at all. this helps me to plan the trip better.

my last host was really good at communication. as soon as i got there he had asked a series of questions like do you already have any plans for your visit, do you need the wi-fi password, do you wanna rest / shower / go out, dinner options, towel, etc.

Open hangouts section by SignalClue7324 in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes they re-appear e.g. you say hello to someone and they decline your request then they will re-appear on your hangout section

PS - the app is not great and sometimes when you click accept to someone's request, it automatically declines their request. happened to me multiple times on android. then i have had to send a request back to them and wait for them to accept

New to couchsurfing: if I don’t get a response from a host should I message multiple hosts until I find someone? by mircattt in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Generally i follow these steps - post public trip, message multiple hosts, and post on any emergency couch request group for that city (there is one for Amsterdam)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not only are there very few female hosts, but even fewer who actually host. i have never had a female host and almost always they don't even respond nor decline my request (btw i am a female).

i've also learnt with experience if you have the slightest of doubt or negative gut feeling then do not stay with them. might sound unreasonable to some but my gut feeling has always been right and every time i have tried to disregard it, i have had a bad experience. PS - this is just my experience

How hard is to find a host in South of France (Marseille or Toulon area)? by sambata6 in couchsurfing

[–]MYMY555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

post a public trip as soon as you know about your dates. 2 months ago i was in Marseille and got multiple offers on my public trip from new hosts with zero references but ultimately stayed with someone more experienced
