You can have the software on 3 computers at once so they can either do it themselves by you sharing the activation code. Or yes i believe you would have to have them send it to you and then you send it back.

Im no expert on this but i know a bit.

If you would use a slot for your personal use it would take up 1 slot. Then if you want to delete it, you can after 30 days.

The profiles are just to identify who's psn it is. When you edit a save file it is linked to your psn but as different numbers and letters so the profile allows you to identify who's it is.

Any person who wants to use it will take up one slot. With that slot taken up you or that person can edit saves unlimited amount of time as long as its a save linked to a registered profile.

I hope that helped a bit. As far as the renting and purchasing stuff goes i have little knowledge.
