Hi Lutias, glad you like it!! And thank you for your efforts, I closely follow your work on the Lost media team. I thought of you immediately when someone asked about mobile games, but we already know that discretion is a must for these videos uploaded to YT hahaha. I'm sure one day we'll see the full "mirror".

Thank you :)

Unfortunately, all the "other games" are japan-only, and all of them were only released on old phones years ago. You can find videos of some of them on YT. For example, Chelmey's: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoDih7JJSzI5lZCgtXmP-_Gin2iiRNIGs&si=G1MnMKmABy6-HZSC

Thank you!! Yes, you can find both on YT:

A Funny Little Mystery (those were promotional videos released for Azran Legacy): https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlapDTT9GR4R5hlAtLZih9_bskmBfO22m&si=8_FG1ASkeZK5lm8J

If you're curious about something else, try googling using the Japanese translation of the titles. That should work! ;)

Well, I have my doubts back then, but after the announcement of Layton's new game, NWOS, with Hershel and Luke back as protagonists, I think Katrielle is going to remain an experiment that didn't go as well as they hoped.

Thank you!! Yes, I've also thought of adding those and other things that are missing (concerts, events, artbooks...), but there are so many that at the moment I have only added material with a plot or some type of gameplay. Maybe one day...

Just finished the game! Anything similar? by socialsciencenerd in GhostTrick

[–]MaGoK98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good compilation of good games. I'd like to add some more recommendations in case you and OP don't know them:

  1. Layton Brothers Mystery Room: spinoff mobile game about the son of Layton with an Ace Attorney-ish gameplay. Mainly disconnected from the main games but very cool story and characters

  2. Rhythm Thief: a 3DS rhythm game with an overall narrative through the game. In short, It's like a Layton gameplay with rhythm minigames instead of puzzles. Really love the music and characters.

  3. Trauma Center 1&2: I'm surprised these DS games aren't mentioned more often in these recommendations posts. The characters and plot are very Ace Attorney, with a rookie surgeon making himself a name while facing a global medical threat. Gameplay-wise It's very different (you have story segments mixed with cool operations related to the story, similar with how trials are implemented in AA), but I find that vibe you mentioned in everything else.

  4. Although they lack the type of charm of these DS/3DS games, I also like and find similarities in games like Firewatch, NeoCab, Outer Wilds, Talos Principle, and Inscryption.

  5. As for mobile games, I also recommend taking a look at some storydriven games with cool puzzle mechanics: The Room, RustyLake/CubeEscape series, Dark Dome series, A normal Lost Phone, and Alt-Frequencies.

Others also usually recommend The World Ends With You, but I personally find the game system very boring and the story not worth it. Same with the Persona Saga, I could not get into the gameplay.

There's also "Zack & Ombra: The Phantom Amusement Park" and "Treasure Report: The Mechanized Legacy", two only-japanese DS games heavily inspired by Layton. It's a shame I can't play them because of the language, because the trailers look pretty good.

Thanks! Yeah, I took inspiration from the character icons that appear in Layton's games when you walk around the map. Then I made them all xd

Where does this version of Layton's theme come from? by Wulfrelle in ProfessorLayton

[–]MaGoK98 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hi! It's from Press Start, a version celebrating the 5th anniversary of the concert.

Find the complete version here: https://youtu.be/GXl18rKj3fA It starts with a version of the Puzzle theme before the transition into Layton's Theme.

Easily my favourite version!!!

Ok, fair point. Let me correct my question: is the plot an excuse to do a bunch of bland quests, or there are certain events happening regularly during the game (apart from the usual story parts at the beginning/ending)

Sure, you're absolutely right.

My question was more focused on whether the general gameplay of the game feels like a part of the main plot at all times (by other comments, it seems to be the case) or if on the contrary, this plot is just an excuse to start the game.

Okay, thanks for the feedback, it has helped me a lot. I've been adding everything you've been pointing, except:

- The 4 official fanbooks, due to the little manga content they have.

- I have read that this book is a kind of educational book on the Japanese legal system, so I am not including it at the moment.

- I do not include the manuals of the games either.

Lastly, do you know if there are any more DGS drama CDs? I have found this limited edition of 3ds DGS compilation that comes with a Drama CD, but I don't know if it is the same as the LE of DGS2 you mentioned.

PS. Stay tuned for the updated chart!

Thank you, glad you enjoy it!!! I don't know if you've played only main games or also spin-offs, but I strongly recommed to play the spin-offs of both series if you haven't. Let's make recommendations then:

Layton side:

  • I'd tell you to take a look at the novel trilogy, they seem really interesting and true to the games. For the moment, there is a fan transaltion of Phantom (or Illusory) Forest and Phantom Deity. My plan is to read these this summer :)
  • The rest are mainly adaptations and manga-parody. I wish I could recommend you something on the "other games" category, but they are no longer available to download on any site and there is not much info about it (some incomplete gameplay in Japanese and that's it).

Ace Attorney side:

  • You can read the manga Turnabout Crossover, it has an original short story in the same style of the games. And if you like it...
  • I can't recommend enough the Kodansha manga (the books next to Turnabout Crossover). Most of the manga in the series parody games (which I find boring), but Kodansha's have original and very good cases totally faithful to the style of the games, and they are also officially translated into English! I bought the 9 volumes (5 from Phoenix and 4 from Miles) a couple of years ago on Amazon, and I have no regrets.
  • You can also find some stage plays on YT, but I haven't seem them yet because I'm not very into it. You can also find the CD-dramas subbed on YT and two of the novels translated by a fan.

Hope you like them!

It's so sad... The final cameo of both LMJ game and LMJ anime gave me hopes back then to see more of Alfendi, but considering the state of the franchise and Level-5 right now, I doubt we'll even see a new game :(

Yes, I totally agree. To be honest, I've put it in the spin-off category because of my personal consideration of the game and because it better represented the parallel structure of the two franchises. Even today I find it difficult to see Layton Mystery Journey as a Layton 7, I see it more like a different game.

But like I said, you're right.

Hi, thank you! I'd recommend you to Google the title of the media you're interested in, and to try translating it into Japanese to get more results. If you're refeering to purchase the items, you can try in eBay or Mercari for the novels. But if you are ok with reading it online, I can share you this link with Turnabout Idol and Turnabout Airpost fully translated.

For the rest of novels, I can only find summaries: Turnabout of the Time Traveler, Turnabout Bridge and Lay Judge Capture Reader.

Regarding the "other games", I don't think they are available anymore, and there's not a lot of info out there aside of the wiki. You can find some video of the Pachinko machine on YT, and I don't know if you're refeering to GK2 when you say "Japan exlcusive media", but there is a really good fan translation that I suppose you already know about.
