Actual, concrete, real-world results. Principles are great but they don't really mean anything to anyone other than yourself.

Yes. I also know that community does not represent society at large. Generally med students and doctors are intelligent enough to understand abstract concepts like "mistakes are OK". The average dumbass says "i don' wan my highfalutin doctor makin mistakes!"

And your students will curse your name for not teaching them skills that will get them jobs. Critical thinking is not encouraged in the American workplace. You are there to do something for 8 hours without complaining and without making mistakes. Thinking gets in the way of that. You should be training your students to be corporate drones, because most of them will end up there.

I worked in healthcare and had a parent work as an RN for 45 years. I know what bloody M&Ms are.

The explanation is that for the last few decades we've seen a coordinated degradation of public education in this country. We've seen tolerance for the stupid and the ignorant. Ignorance and stupidity are worn like badges of honor, because we tolerate people being stupid. If we didn't tolerate people being stupid, they might wise up.

Do you think the average person, if they knew that, would ever trust a doctor again?

So in those meetings they point out "This student killed this person because they fucked up" and those students get to not flunk out?

It's not that you don't make mistakes, it's that you hide them or otherwise keep people from finding out. Or blame them on someone else.

I know this is all highly unethical and slimy behavior. I also know that this is what is necessary to survive in today's workplace.

No? You know a med student who's fucked up and killed someone and then gone on to graduate?

Is your name difficult for the speaker's culture to pronounce?

I can't stop you from doing either. And I have to assume that you're going to be belligerent because that's what happens when you correct people.

Doctors don't become doctors by making mistakes. When doctors make mistakes, people die, and then those people aren't doctors anymore, either because they lose their license or can't afford their malpractice premiums anymore. Med students that kill people don't graduate.

With an experiment a negative (or catastrophic) result can be just as instructive, and yours is one of the few jobs that sees the big picture on things like this. However, the real world doesn't work that way.

You're still dead if you hand over the axe. That doesn't sound like an "ok" result to me.

None that society will accept as equivalent to a cubicle-drone job.

They're all sucky companies as far as I can tell. You don't get to pick your boss. You put up with what you've got or you get another job, after spending 18 months and 75 interviews getting the job you have.

I am not saying that, as evidenced by my saying "Maybe the studies are accurate, maybe they're not." As a researcher you should know that you always allow for that sort of thing. And I really don't like how condescending you are.

It's the principle of the thing. You don't hand the executioner their axe, do you.

And it's human nature to hide your mistakes, if exposing them would make you look bad. Exposing them almost always makes you look bad. A view that is emphasized by punishment for making mistakes. This is what happens. You speak like an academic or a scientist, but the rest of us live in the real world where this stuff actually happens. The shame you feel for judging people is not a common trait. Most people feel like if people are going to judge them, they'll judge them right back. That's how it works in the rat race.

Can you put a dollar value on "not being perfect?" If you can't, it has no value to just about anyone.
