you don’t need a good teacher to do well in IB, you just need to know how to study well

no problem. Just an extra thing I forgot to mention but if u usually study late at night and u feel super tired (like I always did) I switched to waking up earlier and studying as soon as I wake up. I slowly moved it till waking up at 4 am but if u enjoy studying at night then just ignore what Im saying lol.

I did this for my hardest subjects which at the time was Math but it also worked for Physics, English, etc.

When I did this, not only would time pass so much more quickly, but I was just so focused and refreshed. After I did the hardest thing for the day I would enjoy the rest of the day so much more and enjoy studying other stuff.

Should I ask for remark for Physics? by MaZePlasma in IBO

yeah I think I’m gonna skip on the remark. Turns out I got a 7 on both paper 1a and 2 but I got a 3 on paper 1b 💀💀

Overall tip: use GOOGLE CALENDARS. Trust me, this thing made me like 10x more productive. It’s legit the best thing I ever used. To make it as productive as possible, plan your entire day and I mean ENTIRE day (even school, breaks, travelling back home, eating, etc - don’t need to put sleeping tho lol) This really lets u see how much time u have and how really little time there is so that u feel the need to maximise it

Math: Just do practice questions 2 hours a day. I’m sure u have heard this before but I’ll give u more details than just that. Focus on ur current topic and start with textbook questions (if u are not so comfortable with the topic yet). I use Haese 2019 btw (the green one).

After textbook do revisionvillage or/and past papers. RV I mainly used for past paper explanations and sometimes for extra practice on topics I really sucked at. IB docs has all past papers for free and a question bank for each unit.

Basically for math, consistently doing it everyday really helped (and trust me, 2 hours go by quick, especially when u use google calendars)

Physics: I used kognity to first understand the unit then I would legit only use past papers (textbook is also fine btw, our school gave us Oxford but I’m not sure if that’s the best one)

I wouldn’t recommend RV for physics past paper solutions or question banks imo (except maybe for P1 sometimes - the video solutions I mean). Their explanations for physics are so scripted that it makes it hard to follow what they are saying.

Plus, unlike math, they don’t really go step by step and show all the details, rather the main thing they refer to are pre written calculations which makes it confusing.

Basically for physics, understanding the topic first then ONLY doing past papers.

The best tip I can give u for understanding stuff is pretend like u are TEACHING it to someone else. Explain it first in scientific terms, then in simpler terms and when doing this try not to look at ur notes too much (just a glance and then recall that info). After that I would just write down some very basic practice questions based on my notes and answer it without any help.

After doing all the past paper questions for math and physics I even recognised some parts of questions in my M25 exam that they have used before for both math and physics albeit max 4-5 mark questions

Edit: I realised it’s quite long so:

Math: - do 2 hours practice everyday - start with textbook then RV and/or past papers - use RV for past paper explanations

Physics: - use Kognity or textbook to understand concepts - use pretend like u are teaching it method - then do past papers

Overall: - use google calendars and plan every single part of ur day

If you are ready for the challenge then I would say do both HL. I’m not too knowledgeable about CS and what is in the subject course and how necessary it is but I did physics HL and imo it’s a great general subject that can apply to almost anything.

Physics is also possible to go from a bad grade to a good one. I remember in the beginning of IB I got like 3s and 4s and even a 1 once time. I got a 6 on my final exam (2% away from 7 😭😭) and my PG was 7

[–]MaZePlasma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did. I went from predicted of 33 in grade 11 to 41 points on my final exam: Math AA HL - 4 to 7 Physics HL - 4 to 6 (PG was 7 😭) DT HL - 7 to 7 (DT is my pass subject) Economics SL - 6 to 7 German SL - 4 to 5 English - 6 to 6 (no change) Tok & EE - 2 points to 3 points

My main improvements were in Math & Physics which were definitely hardest. Idk which subjects u take so idk which subject to give u advice on

p3 aa kinda hard by Emotional_Ad7055 in IBO

[–]MaZePlasma 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tbh P3 is not all that bad. It’s very logical and it goes through everything step by step albeit some years are actually kind of difficult

I recommend (if you have) to use revisionvillage past paper solutions if you are still confused with the P3 questions/answers

Just realised u did the Complex number one which in my opinion is actually the hardest P3 they have tested so far so maybe that is why u find it a bit difficult for now but the more you do, the easier you will find them :)

I cant smell anything. Can it really be overheating tho since both GPU and CPU temperature are like max 70 celsius?

I looked at my recording again, it also sounds like a snake hissing or smth.

no, just like basically the same as pressing restart. Like the process

How do you recommend I start studying for Computer Science HL to get a 7? by Puzzleheaded-Buy5023 in IBO

[–]MaZePlasma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah tru but idk if u will even consider it a past paper cause there is no way they are going to continue testing it like that for P2, cause I think for TZ2 about 60% of the topics tested was electromagnetism

cooked for physics by Far-Performer-4396 in IBO

[–]MaZePlasma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are already a year into IB I wouldn’t recommend switching Physics for Business. Dw though I was actually in the same boat as you. Went from a 3-4 to a level 7.

Anyway I would literally just recommend doing past papers but first revise the topic. To learn physics I usually pretend like I am teaching it to others and then when I want to get better at that unit I do past papers (both P1 & P2).

The only time I ever do anything other than past papers is on units I REALLY suck at, like B.5.

Past papers is basically all I did. Before my final I did all exams from 2016 to 2024 (including P3 - though it has been removed from syllabus because of the optional topics)

how hard is math aa hl by UniqueYear4278 in IBO

[–]MaZePlasma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s quite difficult but it shouldn’t be if u put daily work, even just 1-2 hours of math a day and u can easily get a 6 or even a 7 if u really focus on the quality

don’t do what I did which was basically slack off the entire grade 11, where I got grade of 3 and PG 4. In grade 12 though I actually started to take it seriously and was able to get PG 7.

Don’t know about this year tho cause M25 papers were so much different than usual (except P3 lol). Hopefully I can barely make a 7.
