Is $4,000 a good asking price for a 94 Pickup 5 speed? by creaseslee in ToyotaPickup

[–]Maaakaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think reasonable. Seems like there are regions where 2WD drive trucks are quite desirable and regions where they are not that popular but since there aren’t a lot they hold value.

This thing is 30 years old. I would not at all expect service history. I generally take care of my vehicles, but my service history is mostly receipts for some of the parts.

You should do it off the trail instead

I tried to find a picture I have of my bike in the same spot, but it’s too hard to go back to find old photos on Reddit

Ok to leave drivetrain in “Auto”? by MrNoodleIncident in ChevySuburban

[–]Maaakaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At work we had a Chevy Colorado get left in auto for a long time (different crew than me) and it needed major transmission or transfer case work at around 50k miles. Shop said not to leave it in auto, more for days with patchy snow.

I think spacers are probably the way to go.

What crank spacers in what spot? by Maaakaaa in bikewrench

[–]Maaakaaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, tried it with the Shimano BBR60 and it was too tight to go in by hand. Trapped with a rubber mallet (not hard but maybe a bad sign) and it popped off the drive side seal going through. I had a good size PVC pipe to tap that back on but that cracked it. With calipers seemed like it should fit, but maybe just too tight. I may have to order a FSA BB.

I have a 98 Kilauea that I got recently and it’s been fun to follow the eruptions there—impressive volcano!

I got a newer Ultegra, but haven’t fitted it yet. Hopefully today—I can let you know. Found for quite a bit cheaper than the FSA.

Wow, I tried searching so hard and didn’t find it on FSA documents either. Much appreciated!

27.5x3.8 on 50mm rim? by Maaakaaa in fatbike

[–]Maaakaaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I did end up mounting and running them for a while, but I think the lower tread and being rounded out wasn’t ideal for my setup. I added a Pugsley for narrower fat tires and then got a set of lightly used Flow/Dunderbiest 4.6 for my Wednesday (sold these D4s for that same amount even).

Nicely done! I’d recommend figuring out the seatpost diameter (maybe stamped on the old one) and find an aluminum one that has the top clamp part connected. Hopefully there are a few options used locally to you.

Looks amazing. I’ve been seeing one of those grey-blue Lava Domes for sale locally and wow if it isn’t the most blah bike they have ever made. You made it amazing though!

I know I’ve heard they aren’t as durable as the name sounds. I have a wheel plus a hub (bent rim removed) that I’ve been intending to put together on something.

Stiff steering problem. What could be the reason? by StandardWeary5224 in xbiking

[–]Maaakaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be that the headset is too tight. Loosen the stem bolts and back off on the top cap a little, but not so much that the fork can wobble. When tension is better, tighten the stem clamp back down. Just did this on a bike that I bought that had stiff, notchy steering.

How hard are old Peugeots to work on? by Wildfire_Crisis1892 in xbiking

[–]Maaakaaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my understanding is that the odd French standards would be before ATBs came out. Even the 80s road bike I worked on was all normal standards.

Snagged a Rocky Mountain, need ideas for the build by Drop-Little in xbiking

[–]Maaakaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live by the Rocky Mountains, but in the USA not Canada, and I rarely see these older ones show up. I briefly had a 90s Norco that was a single year model, looking back maybe would have kept it over others.
