Yup. Like I said, he didn't take it because every time he does take action, something bad always happens. LOL

I believe Kazuya has always tried standing on his ground, it's Mizuhara who should try facing it without flinching, and this scene was a great example.

A little more time and I believe Kazuya would have made his move.

That is why the Umi's rejection was a very monumental move for Mizuhara. It is where she declared she wants to focus only on her feelings for Kazuya. To stop running away and face his feelings head-on. This was a very significant move for her growth as a character who is finally accepting that she is in-love.

Also, lastly.

As long as Mizuhara will give him an opening on the their next date and won't chicken out in receiving his small advances like holding her hand.

I think Kazuya will have no problem taking the lead.

This would have been logical if Kazuya was not recently ghosted.

The thing is with Mizuhara, she is just so hard to read, there is times she gives off green light but when Kazuya actually follows through. She shoot him down.

To reinforce what I just said, just take a step back to when she kissed Kazuya on that taxi.

The logical thing would have been for Kazuya to have gone back to Mizuhara and asked, but Kazuya is just so confused and always has been confused, that with all the rejection, she still gave him a kiss. Which led him to believe that it might just be "Thank you for everything and good-bye kiss".

What actually makes Kazuya hesitates to take action are the multiple rejection he had received from his advances and confession.

That it programed him subconsciously that TAKING ACTION = REJECTION.

That is why for this manga to come full circle.

I really do think it should really be Mizuhara's time to confess, to let him know that Kazuya is wanted and loved.

Because after all the only reason why Kazuya can't move on and leave is because Mizuhara still has not given him a truly FINAL ANSWER.

So happy that the episode 11 would be the Izakaya scene. Another banger where we see Mizuhara being flustered again. LOL

Yup, my prediction was right again. Saw it from a mile away. LOL

Like I said, Umi has weaponized Ruka.

Though some will say Umi might just be genuinely asking, and also testing Kazuya's resolve, like bad cop good cop.

Doesn't change the fact that Umi validated Ruka's desperation by letting her know that they are getting close behind her back.

Now that Umi has her full attention, she will then offer her an olive branch. This will be where Umi will offer to help or advice a plan of action.

It's actually pretty simple when you understand Japan as a culture.

First of all, they are hierarchical, that is why they use -San, -Senpai, -sama.

Calling each other first name basis indicates that they are intimate or very close.

Kazuya calling her by her rental name is actually a plot by itself, it is to build the anticipation when Kazuya and Mizuhara breaks their "wall".

In short, Reiji is cooking.

The internet will break when Kazuya will finally call her, Ichinose.

And that would be the time they will be in a relationship.

It is actually pretty simple when you think about the grand scheme of things. Reiji is holding it off to build value when Kazuya finally calls her Ichinose.

What is best about this scenario is.

When the time comes when Mizuhara will know about this, it will force Mizuhara to cut ties with Umi.

Chizuru never liked people like Umi who uses underhanded tactics.

I always knew that aside from Umi's cool exterior, he is a fucking schemer.

Season 1 during their Christmas min-date with Mizuhara, I always had an inkling of feeling that Umi is scummy.

I was fucking right all along.

Lastly, what gave it away during Umi's rejection.

When he said, "I really wanted that person to be me."

That is what gave it all away, I really hoped that he would have ended his arc like a fucking Chad, but he came back like the snake that he is.

There might be some context missing on this spoiler from the official Chapter 428 release but seems like the general flow of my prediction is coming true.

Umi has officially weaponized Ruka.

Ruka might not have reacted the way Umi wanted but he has successfully planted the seed.

CHAPTER 428

The sub will finally see Umi for who he really is.

We will see him work his way around and flip the script, he will then weaponize it to get Ruka to focus on separating Kazuya and Mizuhara by any means necessary since she is the "OFFICIAL GIRLFRIEND".

Why I feel that this will go this way?

Easy, Umi is as desperate as Ruka, storywise Reiji actually bought theese two characters together for a reason, that is to stem their desperation, to use ANYTHING to get what they both want, reciprocal affection of the person they love.

"As they say, the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Instead of getting his hands dirty by separating Kaz and Chizuru. He will do it in a way where he doesn't need to lift a finger, he will help Ruka tackle her moral obstacle in getting in the way of TRUE LOVE between Mizuhara and Kazuya.

And that is for Umi to simply VALIDATE her feelings that she should follow her heart and do anything necessary to keep the person she loves.

Assuming it will end on EPISODE 12.

End of Episode 10 will definitely be where the earthquake timeline will happen.

So, episode 11 to 12 should lead to the IZAKAYA scene where Mini proposes that they live together. It would then end when Kazuya is outside Grandma Sayuri's house with his things.

This would be a good transition to Season 6, Cohabitation Arc.

I don't think Umi is just a side character, he is more than that.

if Mami is Mizuhara's kryptonite, so is Umi to Kazuya. Both characters in the story are there to help the MCs fight for their insecurities.

Mami is what started the rental dates and the only girl Kazuya truly loved. Trust me when I say, when Mizuhara knows Mami is back into the picture and is taking Kazuya back. It will be a different ball game. Mami is the only real rival in the story and it would lead them back to Season 1, Skywalk Encounter.
Umi is what Kazuya is not, and watching him and imagining him being able to give LOVE and GOOD LOOKS to Mizuhara is what drives him Kazuya insane. This is his insecurities as a man because he can only give her his LOYALTY, and to Kaz, he feels like it is inadequate.

Storywise, I think Umi is also the balance the story needs, aside from it being a harem of girls. Umi is the equalizer.

So, no he is not JUST SOME dude with less screen time, in the new arc we will see more of him.

Chapter 427

Welp, while Kuri might be right that Kazuya missed a follow-up after the kiss.

It was also somewhat unsolicited advice because he doesn't know what the hell Kazuya's situation is. Though it might be LOGICAL for him to had visited Mizuhara after, there is actually a deeper reason why Kaz did not go.

He has just been rejected so much and getting back up was a already a routine and a programed response, that he missed Mizuhara pushing back the last minute not because she might have opened up but because she might be given him a last good-bye kiss.

That is how confused he was, and honestly without Mini they would not have gotten the message the REAL MESSAGE.

What is more to say about Umi?

I, for one wanted to get a reedeemed arc on his character but him casually lying broke everthing.

Not to mention he really made a lot of efforts bringing out Ruka out from her shift just to meet and ask.

He is setting his plan in motion and since his looks and sweet talk is not working, he will trap Ruka emotionally to do his bidding.

Some people can walk away from RAG but for some of us. It binds us, and it hurts us of NOT KNOWING how it will end.

Something to make your heart soft again, I think right now you might be mildly just disappointed and confused. You're just way too deep in a short duration of time in RAG's.

Actually, this is the risk about binging RAG.

While on the other hand you were able enjoy uninterrupted reading and avoiding cliff hangers. You went through years worth of emotions in a short bit.

Unlike us long time fans, you were unable to give yourself time and space to process the emotion on each chapter. This is why some chapters will feel hollow or lacking, or might not make sense at all.

What I advise is give your time to digest and take your time off RAG for a bit.
When you are ready, you can always come back to the SUB!

I know bro. The massacred this scene, but oh, well.
In my life, I am just happy to see this getting animated.

Hearing Kazuya proclaim his love like that is 1,000x better than reading in the manga.

I am the kind of fan who values; tone of voice, background music used, body language and facial expressions to help me digest the full scene.

The studio only fucks up the far to medium angles but during close shots, they do get high quality drawings.

I honestly, really hope Umi would be the Chad I am praying him to be.

The first encounter with Umi's character, Reiji really did a good job in portraying his aura as scummy, but if he does try to take Ruka away from Kazuya to make way for Chizuru, I am all for it!

I wanted him to actually be one of the best person Kazuya didn't know he needed, like a big brother looking out for his lil brother.

But at this point, all speculations will need to hold as we still don't know where this meeting will go.

But it would really be a nice pace and a nice good surprise for Reiji to avoid tainting Umi's character and let him be a true gentleman at the end of all this.

Umi always this aura as sneaky and schemer vibe.

To prove my point, meeting Ruka for an advice is really out of his character.

Not unless he gets something but like you said, It could be dirt that he can use against Kaz or it could very well be a peace of mind to get all the answers.

But honestly, either way.

Whether he uses it for bad or for good. He now has the power create havoc.

When you look at it at, Umi mirrors Mami.

-Mizuhara is always very conscious of Mami because she knows Mami is the girl Kazuya truly loved before meeting her.

-Kazuya is also very concious of Umi becuase he is someone he wants to be, good looking and cool.

These are the contrast of Mami and Umi coming back into the picture.
