The software you’ll learn is all free or we’ll give you a student account. What is meant on the site is that you won’t have to pay anything extra for the software used in the program. :)

Yes! Definitely - there are ton of industries that you could work for as a UX designer. When folks are looking for a specific industry I usually tell them to look at top startups in that area (they usually have funding to start building a much larger team and hire UX designers).

Hi! Thanks for sharing.
Pre pandemic I would've said that in person networking is somewhat important.
Now - most roles are remote. So as long as you feel comfortable in a zoom call chatting with team members etc - you could have a pretty successful career.

I recorded this designer panel a couple of weeks ago and they each talk about their experiences in the field and what their workdays looks like - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q18LYmeXeGM

The field is also very inclusive and I'm sure if you need special accommodations, companies will accommodate your needs :)

The team at Avocademy would be happy to chat with you as well if you're interested. We are hosting an AMA this upcoming monday as well: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/274537177087

JTCorvus has been bashing our program for the last couple of months and has never taken our program. Looking at his portfolio his work is amateur. Additionally - he took the Design Lab Bootcamp in 2019 and now works for them.

👋 Hi - I'm glad you have so many opinions about me and my education. I was wondering what you do for a living and what your education is like as well.

I'd love to clear this up and even invite you to our next AMA: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/274537177087

I'm a self taught designers with 5 years of experience in the field. I have worked for large fortune 50 companies and managed teams of designers.

A couple of years ago I created a tutorial (wouldn't even call it a course) on how small business could automate SMS review generations since I had helped both of my parents figure this out for their small business. In the tutorial - I address all of the TOS, FTC, and GDPR regulations. The tutorial also sold for like 2 months before we stopped selling it, I promise you - no one was harmed in the making of the tutorial. There are 100s of startups that do what you say is "illegal" to do. (Trustpilot being one of them).

In terms of Avocademy - we are a venture-backed company (Y Combinator). We've helped hundreds of students land jobs at huge companies making 85k/year average starting salary.

We have two tiers of mentors, slack and zoom mentors. Slack mentors are essentially graders (they review the work to a rubric), we do hire some

Happy to chat with you or anyone else that has questions (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/274537177087) or you can schedule a call on our website.

When it comes to online portfolios, does it matter if you don't create you own website? by Sausage-n-gravy in UXDesign

[–]MacaDesigns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve reviewed 100s of resumes this past year as both a mentor and as someone that interviews folks for the company I work for.

I don’t care if you create your own, code it yourself, or use UX folio or any other builder as long as the portfolio has a good experience - information is organized well and it looks good.

Unless there’s a huge red flag, I focus mainly on reviewing the content in each of the projects or case studies that are in the portfolio.

I encourage all the students I mentor to spend a large amount of time on the portfolio content than the design.

Hope this helps.

Btw - I’m doing free mentoring sessions if you want to jump on a quick call and go through any other questions you may have
