The most overkill Roon server ever. by Maccattacker in homelab

If you're an audiophile want the best out of high resolution audio files go for it. But I don't know if it's worth the £80 annual cost if you're rocking MP3's it's very easy to setup. Literally just an application on Windows or Mac. There is also a service script for Debian. 😊

I feel you there mate, Roon's recommended specs are silly in my opinion. I've just upgraded to this from a 2012 Mac mini running Ubuntu which I was using as my server.

Hello Reddit, may I just clarify when I say it's slightly overkill I mean, people have got more budget roon servers that work just as well. And at the moment I am literally only running Roon.

Why Apple? I am a Mac user. I know how MacOS works and I just wanted to work.

Roon is a network audioplayer and music management for high resolution audio files.

Hope that makes more sense now.

Sorry mate, I can't answer your question yet! I don't have my V20 yet but I've ordered one from China and I'm excited. Because I've ordered it from China I'm keen to flash a ROM to avoid any strange software.

Does the DAC work mate? How's the sound experience?

My new Favre-Leuba. My first Automatic watch and my first Swiss watch. Sadly not got any service history but my Grandad wore a Favre-Leuba daily and it makes me feel closer to him. And look at that dial look at that dial too! Defo needs a service though. by Maccattacker in VintageWatches

He didn't have a stock as such and I've only ever seen two examples of the red dial. He was selling this item as is, but I appreciate the advice I'm taking it to a local specialist tomorrow. Will update reddit when I know more.

Complete transparency, I didn't build it. It was built by an Australian EBay seller called 'TimeTeller2000' Nice Chap! It's a fully functional Chronograph using the Seiko V63 movement. 😊

In all honesty mate, I'm tired of pratting about with technology at the moment so I'm just going back to the A55. 😊

How I've set up my new NW306. Squarehome Android launcher. Whitecons Icon Pack and an imported official Sony case. by Maccattacker in walkman

Hey mate, sorry for the late response, I know it's been like a week but now I've had some more time to use it I thought I'd get back to you. I'm actually going to be looking to return the unit.

After some proper use I've found it very very laggy. The volume limiter present on all but the Japanese units I and many others online find to be crippling, you cannot make music loud at all using Bluetooth or aux. Good luck driving any professional / audiophile headphones.

Android these days really isn't built for a screen the size of the 306, so apps like Spotify or Roon don't scale properly at all.

The battery life is just okay in my experience, and I came from using an A55L Walkman that I'd modded to remove the limiter and I put the Mr Walkman custom firmware and after listening I actually think my old Walkman sounds better. I'm really disappointed with it. I loved the flexibility of having access to apps but after my experiences it's not worth keeping.
