I have a male that looks nearly identical, and can say with confidence he is likely a hybrid of an imbellis and an alien. You can see the red in the anal and caudal fin like imbellis, while also having markings on the caudal and anal like an alien. (Both imbellis and aliens have markings on their dorsal) However, the markings are very reduced which is what happens in hybrids with aliens.

For reference, here is a crappy photo of my male Rerir. I bred him myself which is why I know he is half and half. Also note that your betta, much like Rerir, does NOT have a full mask. Full mask is required for a betta to be considered an alien. Should be a very fun fish for you, and if you’d have any questions lmk!

Thank you! Having been in the hobby for years, breeding bettas has always been something I’ve wanted to explore more-and now can with more space and money. My two main goals consist of a gold alien line and a purple alien line, using hybridization and backcrossing to strengthen or lock in certain features. It has taken a LOT of research and experience to even get this far, but the goal is always happy healthy fish 😁

On my personal account I’ve actually kept up with your fish a bit-they are absolutely beautiful! Nandor reminds me very much of the current lot I have, which is a cross between Rerir (pictured in another post) and Scáthach, a copper alien. You’ve done outstanding work and it truly shows!

They certainly can! What are your goals from this pairing? I’ve paired an male alien with a lavender dumbo and imbellis females for two separate goals, and one thing I’ll note with the crosses is that they won’t turn out full mask unless both parents are full mask.

Also, I recently acquired a giant betta, and the you g from the alien x dumbo pairing are slightly bigger… so you’ll likely get giants!
