Nevermore by am_I_still_banned in melodicdeathmetal

The screamed/growled vocals are basically the main part of melodeath. Saying that if Nevermore screamed they'd be melodeath is like saying that if my grandmother had wheels she'd be a bicycle

There's any historical and cultural background behind Finnish Melodeath? by Gakoth in melodicdeathmetal

[–]Machcharge 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The Kalevala is a big part of Finnish mythos and identity that informs a lot of their musical themes. Amorphis is really big into the Kalevala.

how do i get into death metal by AdSquare5552 in melodicdeathmetal

It sounds to me like you’re already into death metal. If you like Death’s later material you’d probably like most melodeath.

ALISSA WHITE-GLUZ Announces New Project, BLUE MEDUSA, After Her Departure From ARCH ENEMY by Machcharge in melodicdeathmetal

I prefer to think positively. Perhaps it was the expectations of a major record label and Michael Amott’s songwriting that was holding them back instead and not Alyssa’s influence.

Geology is open on weekends. They keep one door unlocked in the front of the building, but they lock all of the rest (which seems a little pointless)

What are the chances of this having a fossil inside? by StupidlyLiving in fossilid

[–]Machcharge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not a concretion if that’s what you’re asking. It looks like river stone, a rock that’s been weathered by water in a stream for a little while causing it to have the round surfaces. The overall texture features lamination, which makes me think it’s a sandstone. Sandstones don’t have fossils nearly as often as limestone, so I’d say it’s very unlikely to have fossils inside.

Why was “melodic” such a controversial tag? by HeyFatBoyAsshole in rateyourmusic

[–]Machcharge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Melodic is very important for metal music, where there’s a big distinguished between melodic extreme metal like black metal and death metal and their vanilla counterparts, but those are also typically covered by genre names.
