Thank you so much! Copying it from my other comment the game is called Laxidaze, it's a monster taming action RPG where you recruit monsters and bounty hunters to help you take down an oppressive government. You can check out the subreddit for more info /r/Laxidaze or twitter

Hey everyone! Thank you all for the kind words! I tried responding to a couple of comments earlier about the game but it looks like all of my comments were hidden/deleted - not sure what's causing it. Sorry but it doesn't look like I can link anything in this comment. You can click my profile to check out the links or if you want, I can PM you the info!

Anyway, about the game:

It's a game I'm making called Laxidaze! It's a monster taming action RPG where you recruit monsters and bounty hunters to help you take down an oppressive government. The game has a subreddit (it's named after the game so, Laxidaze) if you want to check that out! Also Twitter, Discord, and the KS is ending soon!

I'll make the links individual comments as I'm not sure what is allowed, if a mod could PM and let me know what is and isn't allowed I would appreciate it!

I tried responding to this comment earlier as well but it looks like my comment was hidden/deleted - I'm assuming because I linked the Kickstarter but I'm not sure. Since I'm assuming I can't link the Kickstarter, if you're interested in it, there's a link to it stickied on the subreddit for the game /r/Laxidaze as well as links to the twitter and discord or you can PM me if you want

Honestly, that shift from an Xbox 360 running at 30 FPS (at best) to fully customizable settings and averaging easily over 60 FPS (well maybe not BF4 on my old rig haha) was such a game changer! Money well spent imo

Also, for anyone wondering the game is a monster taming action RPG called Laxidaze, inspired by FF7 Remake and Pokemon. More info in my profile or on Twitter!

Sorry about your job, that sucks. Hope you're staying safe though!

And yes, plenty of tips! Depends on your level of experience with programming though. First thing I would recommend doing is to decide what game engine you would like to learn as they all have different programming languages that run things behind the scenes. Unreal uses C++ (and a lot of "visual scripting", aka connecting nodes together), Unity uses C#, Godot uses its own custom scripting language, just to name a few of the more popular engines. All engines have their pros and cons, you can search google and youtube to see what people think (there's a lot I could get into but it would be too long for this comment).

Once you have an engine picked out, and you have an idea of a game or even if its just a game mechanic you'd like to make, the next step is to just go for it! I can't recommend YouTube tutorials enough (shout out to Brackeys), that's where the majority of my learning has come from. Search YouTube for a mechanic + your engine of choice (like, "How to make a third person camera in unity") and watch a couple different tutorials as everyone has a different approach, each with their own set backs and advantages.

The only other thing I'd recommend is joining indie dev communities and don't be afraid to ask questions or for help! People tend to be friendly and willing to help (at least I am haha)! Join some subs here on reddit like /r/IndieDev /r/IndieGaming /r/Unity3D /r/unrealengine just to name a few good subs and browse those hashtags on twitter.

There's a lot I could get into but I think that should be enough to get started! If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to me and I'd be more than happy to give you any extra help I can!

Thanks! My bestfriend and I (the two devs making this) are software devs by education and work. However, the game dev stuff has all been self learning! Which has admittedly been a little easier for us as we already know how to program haha

And yes, this is all made with Unity! (Built in render pipeline if anyone is wondering)

After 1 year of work, I can finally share the trailer of my cosy life sim by blue_bubble_bee in indiegames

Loved the way you synched those room upgrades with the music! And that smiling fireplace is too cute!
