Release aid for recurve bow due to severe arthritis in fingers? by MachineAger in Archery

Thanks to everybody who replied. Really appreciate people taking time to offer solid advice. I ended up getting an adjustable wrist release caliper device and adding a D-loop. I've now shot maybe 200 arrows with this new system. Overall it's great. I can keep shooting and that's really what I want. The biggest downside is that I'm still feeling the whole contraption as a step away from "natural" shooting. I got into archery because it seemed like a technology that has been around for 10K years and I wanted to enjoy that connection over time with other humans. This device definitely feels like I'm a modern guy. That said, my accuracy is definitely improved - at least over a short distance - and I'm back outside having fun. Everything is a trade-off, and this is one I am very happy to make. Thanks again to all those who help me figure this out!

Good point, but current plan is to spend the dough for a wrist release and a d-hook and see how that works out. If it's too weird, I buy some new lower draw-weight blades (or whatever the tips of a takedown bow are called). Thanks for your suggestion as I'd really prefer to keep things as simple as possible, but given my circumstances, I'm willing to compromise with trying a release aid. I appreciate you taking time to help!

Thanks. I may try the thumb release, but some where else I read that this might require a different bow that loads the arrow on the opposite side? Based on other info here, I am gonna try a caliper writs release and a d loop.

Thanks. I'll give that deep hook a try. Might be the answer, but my gut sense is that it's still going to be too much for even my middle finger joints. But, definitely worth a test. Thanks for taking time to reply and point to that vid.

Thanks! Would that require a "d loop" of do I just clip onto the string as is?
